The Quality Assurance Manageris responsible for the management of the plant Food Safety and Quality Assurance program. Oversees the implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety Plan, product quality testing, and all associated records - including Certificates of Analysis. Maintain accurate records of sample and new product testing, including current product specifications and requirements. Oversee the quality process in all departments. The QA Manager will be designated as both the FDA Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) and the SQF Practitioner / Implementer and will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the Food Safety / SQF program for that location, including all records and quality procedures. This position reports directly to the Food Safety Director with accountability to the Division Manager.

Core Responsibilities:

Lead the assigned operation to meet customer Quality and On-Time-Delivery requirements, while controlling cost, and maintaining a safe working environment.

Develop and maintain an engaged, positive, and effective manufacturing organization through selection, training/development, and motivation of the workforce.

Create and analyze key performance indicators and take appropriate action(s) to ensure safety, quality, production, and growth goals are met.

Provide leadership and commitment in support of continuing improvements in food safety, quality, productivity, and delivery performance.

Enforce Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), quality, and proper documentation of processes. Enforcement of all company policies.

Champion positive cultural change and employee engagement through collaboration, communication, accountability, and a continuous learning environment.

Establish Visual Workplace and Key Performance Indicators for areas of responsibility. Ensure the department meets all safety, quality, cost, policy compliance, and maintenance objectives.

Strict adherence to budgets and resource plans, and monitoring performance, to achieve sanitary requirements for the facility and Pest Control program.

Coordinate and assist with corporate initiatives and participate on teams in order to drive best practices across Honeyville, Inc.

Perform assignments and directives provided by the Director of Food Safety and the Plant Manager.

Inspect, promote and maintain adherence to food safety cleanliness in the handling of product, ingredients, and finished goods, using proper work procedures and compliance with Food Safety Standards as defined by the FDA, SQF, and Preventive Controls and Prerequisite programs.

Food Safety, Quality Assurance, and Testing:

Create and harbor Food Safety and Quality Culture among production, management, and outside vendors.

Assure compliance with applicable quality, food safety, and regulatory standards.

Oversee the Food Safety plan, HACCP / HARPC, and Preventive Controls. Including the verification and validation of these programs and ensuring that processing lines are monitored.

Support, implement, and maintain food safety and quality practices as required through SQF code and other regulatory agencies.

Responsible for the quality testing to ensure all products meet quality standards. Oversee communication of results to the production team.

Assure that finished products comply with Customer, Company, State, and Federal standards.

Keep current product specifications, Mill standard operating procedures (SOP), and certificates of analysis (COA) updated and on file.

Oversee the maintenance of control samples for all products, filed in an orderly manner.

Oversee the quality testing such as: Ro-tap, moisture, protein, blend consistency, visual analysis, etc., and ensure the production process is in control.

Assist in maintaining all quality records including the records that are pertinent to product traceability. Carry out traceability exercises as assigned. Direct the necessary retrieval of suspect product involved in a product recall.

Manage department funds per approved annual budget.

Ensure the maintenance of all lab equipment and lab area is in a clean and orderly condition.

Oversee lab testing including mycotoxin, allergen swabbing, micro testing, and other industry testing as requested.

Oversee the Environmental Monitoring and IPM Program of the facility.

Oversee Sanitation Program and verification of cleaning methods for control of microbial, allergenic, and organic product cross-contamination risks.

Responsible for validating changes to prerequisite programs.

Conduct / oversee internal and external auditing and ensure corrective action completion.

Auditing of process / production records and documentation, quality, pest control, and shipping documentation and records. Oversee control and storage of documentation and records.

Conduct noncompliance assessments of products with the Production Manager to determine hold and/or disposition of products.

Conduct Customer Complaint investigations and oversee the root cause analysis and corrective actions, provide written communication regarding the findings.

Coordinate activities of maintenance and contractors during construction activities to ensure compliance to GMPs.

Collect quality key performance indicator data and develop reports for division and corporate management.

Assist in the coordination of export shipments.

Ensure customers receive requested documentation for Mill products.

Maintain quality guidelines and ensure that all incoming raw materials are within quality specifications:

Assure that all raw materials comply with Customer, Company, State and Federal standards.

Work with R&D and Purchasing to maintain approved supplier register and documentation as applicable to Growers.

Oversee quality of incoming ingredients by COA receipt and ingredient sampling.

Maintain raw material allergen documentation.

Work with vendors to correct non-compliance issues concerning ingredients and supplies.

Personnel and Training:

Provide managerial and technical leadership to Quality Assurance technicians and other appropriate plant QA staff.

Assist in the interview process for new quality assurance employees.

Responsible for writing Mill Standard operation procedures (SOPs) for Quality Assurance Department employees and implementation of Corporate SOPs.

Ensure that the on-the-job training and job-specific training of personnel in relation to Quality functions and in the areas of noncompliance, metal detection, GMPs, HACCP, color code, sanitation procedures, net weight, and sensory attributes is completed and properly recorded in employees training record.

Conduct the yearly review evaluations for review of performance and Goal setting for employees.

Responsible for a monthly one-on-one meeting with all quality personnel to discuss and set goals, develop job skills, review training and celebrate goals reached.

Ensure cross-training of personnel to provide maximum efficiency and flexibility.

Advise employees of any changes in work schedules and overtime as needed.

New product testing and development:

Responsible for monitoring the processing of all new sample product runs by working side by side with the production team members and lab technicians as new products are tested.

Keep accurate records of new product testing on file for review including:

Production equipment used and production screens and settings.

Lab testing requirements.

Other test information such as color, texture, moisture etc.

Validation and verification of HACCP and Preventive Controls.

Responsible for review and implementation of all Quality/Food Safety policies and procedures and customer or third-party audits:

Be a certified SQF Practitioner.

Be HACCP / HARPC Certified.

Obtain Preventive Controls Qualified Individual certification.

Oversee Organics Program, Kosher Certification, and other certifications as required.

Coordinate the Training for Food Safety, SQF, GMP, HACCP / HARPC training.

Assess customer requirements of processes and products, create specific documentation for Mill products.

Oversee and coordinate Vendor visits and Customer visits.

Implement food safety procedures and protocols.

Provide technical information to:

Customers

Sales personnel

Production Team Members and Managers

Suppliers

Responsible for the following sanitation department activities:

Verify completed documentation of sanitation activities.

Assist in annual review of Master sanitation schedule.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 4 years combined related work experience in food production or manufacturing environment.

Sound financial understanding with the ability to formulate strategies based on financial data.

Demonstrate ability to sustain improvements that align with company objectives.

Working knowledge of sanitation and food safety principles and how they affect the overall success of the business.

Demonstrated ability to perform root-cause analyses, suggest, and implement long-term fixes for these items.

Proven ability to collaborate with a wide variety of audiences with differing perspectives and frames of reference.

Computer literate, including knowledge of and competence in manufacturing-related systems and Microsoft Office.

Knowledge of HACCP / HARPC and SQF certified, familiarity with micro testing, and food safety recall protocols.

Additional Duties:

Ensure production of Safe Quality Food at all times.

Lead culture change by example and collaboration.

Strict adherence to HACCP, GMPs, and Quality Standards.

Strict adherence to Standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Strict adherence and enforcement of all Safety policies.

Reporting of near miss, injuries, and property damage.

Ensure areas are organized and maintained to company standard (5s).

On-time completion of Corrective actions.

Other duties as assigned.

Frequently required to stand; walk; use of hands and fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; and to talk; or hear. Ability to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color, and depth vision. Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock or vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud. Exposure to allergens such as Soy, Wheat, sesame, etc.
