The Senior Director, Global Microbiology & Sanitation will report to the VP, Global Quality & Food Safety. The role will ideally be based at McCormick's global headquarters in Hunt Valley, Maryland and will be eligible to participate in our 50/50 hybrid program (50% onsite and 50% remote per month). McCormick may consider remote work on a case-by-case basis for the ideal candidate.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the VP, Global Quality and Food Safety, the Senior Director, Global Microbiology and Sanitation provides strategic leadership and decision-making for the development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of key Quality and Food Safety standards and the associated governance for microbiology, sanitation standards and practices, and hygienic design standards. The incumbent is accountable for the development and implementation of Quality and Food Safety initiatives related to microbiology spanning total Supply Chain, product development, and laboratory integrity across the enterprise.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop strategic plan to transform technical and operating framework to drive Microbiological and Sanitation risk reduction, leading levels of brand protection and enabling fundamental changes in practice to enable business growth.

Communicate and gain alignment to the transformational plan at senior levels globally, in each region and cross-functionally.

Motivate and develop employees to embrace and drive execution of the strategic plan of a multi-year timeframe.

Inspire leadership of a globally dispersed team of microbiology and sanitation resources with full accountability to drive advancement of microbiological sciences, sanitation practices, and customer-focused growth-supporting strategic transformation.

Develop and support a globally dispersed and culturally diverse team of professionals of various skill and leadership levels.

Write and deploy standards and assure execution and performance through direct reports and other functional resources.

Establish systems to assure governance and effective performance vs standards and continuous improvement activities.

Develop capabilities and technologies, justify and attain funding, assure deployment and execution of projects through direct reports and other functional resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree or higher in Food Safety or Microbiology.

At least 10+ years of relevant experience in food microbiology and food manufacturing.

Proven track record demonstrating the successful and effective ability to lead, inspire, and manage a team of people.

Ability to deliver regional microbiological performance excellence through strategic leadership of regionally deployed resources.

Ability to partner cross-functionally with colleagues at senior and peer levels in multiple geographies and cultures.

Ability to create and prioritize risk countermeasures, based on risk tolerance, severity, and probability of occurrence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD.

Auditing proficiency through training or certification (i.e., ISO 17025, ASQ, CFSA).

Thermal Process Authority.

Supply Chain Based certification focused on Quality and Food Safety: PCQI (or HACCP based on region).
