Associate Director for the Office of TRIO Programs

The Office of TRIO Programs at MSUB is home to five different TRIO programs including Student Support Services on the University Campus, Student Support Services at City College, Talent Search, Upward Bound, and Educational Opportunity Centers.

The Educational Opportunity Centers grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and this position is dependent upon grant funding. This position is employed on a letter of appointment basis for 10 months running from August 1 through May 31; the person in this position will have an office at Montana State University Billings. The applicant chosen for the position will travel to Wheatland, Golden Valley, Musselshell, Treasure, Yellowstone, Sweet Grass, Stillwater, Carbon, and Big Horn counties to meet with participants and assist the Eastern Montana Outreach Advisor with their counties.Duties and Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role are networking with community partners to recruit participants, creating curriculum, implementing events, and coordinating programming. This position provides outstanding customer service, guidance, and support to program participants.Recruit and serve a large caseload of individuals at assigned counties.Diagnose participant needs and develop action plans to address participant needs.Advise and counsel participants concerning employment opportunities and careers.Counsel participants regarding the college admissions process.Provide financial literacy and financial aid application counseling to participants.Provide direct service and support to participants through academic and career planning from the point of admission to the program through post-secondary entrance.Refer participants to community resources such as job services, adult education centers, etc.Provide services related to orientation, registration, assessment of learning, referral to appropriate supports, and facilitate participant engagement in academic and career planning activities.Assist in the coordination of special events including but not limited to FAFSA nights, recruitment presentations, scholarship searches, etc.Travel to service areas and professional development.Assist participants with college preparation and planning including but not limited to FAFSA completion, ACT/SAT preparation and completion, GED and HiSET preparation and completion, SMART goal setting, academic skills assessment, etc.Assist the Executive Director in implementation of long-term goals and program strategies ensuring that grant objectives of the U.S. Department of Education are met; assists in establishing productivity and efficiency.Assist with data management and maintain the integrity of student records.In the absence of the Executive Director, act to ensure the ED’s responsibilities are properly taken care of. This involves making critical decisions on a priority basis and representing the institution as requested.Assist the Executive Director with grant writing and additional fundraising.Other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications

Education Required:

Master’s Degree in related field (such as Education, Counseling, Communication or Human Services).Experience Required:

2 or more years of experience relative to skills and qualifications listed.Preferred Qualifications

Experience Preferred:3 years of experience relative to skills and qualifications listed:Knowledge of TRIO programsExperience with first-generation and low-income populationsExperience with military and veterans students and their familiesSpecial Instructions
