Primary Responsibilities

Proficient computer skills

Performs quality check to verify paper documents are imaged accurately and all images are legible.

Assists physicians and other staff members with notification and completion of patient records; monitors timeliness of scanning of documentation.

Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and analyze healthcare data.

HIM specialists play a critical role in ensuring that patient records are accurate, up to date and secure, and they help healthcare organizations make informed decisions using data analysis.

Provides support to assist healthcare providers with access to patient records and timely completion of patient records; notifies staff of completion time frames and required documentation to complete; ensures the records are available, timely and accurately depict the requirements of the medical record standards.

Excellent communication skills to communicate with healthcare providers and other stakeholders.

Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects.

Familiar with healthcare regulations, such as HIPAA and regulations of JCAHO and CMS as they pertain to Health information.

Strong analytical and analysis skills with knowledge of healthcare documentation standards; reviewing patient records for Joint Commission standards of documentation.

Ability to manage and organize healthcare data, assisting with mandatory state reporting, requiring analytical skills and analysis of data.

Education

High school graduate or equivalent with preferred knowledge of medical terminology, and experience in a medical record setting.

Experience

Minimum of 1 year of office experience required with preference being in Health Information.

Experience with Excel, Word, and other software.
