Baltimore, MD, USJob Summary:Reporting to the Health Information Manager/Privacy Officer, the Health Information Supervisor is responsible for providing supervision of the departmental staff and day-to-day operations within the Health Information Management Department; this is a working leadership role. Involves scheduling, maintaining appropriate coverage, and coordinating individual work assignments to ensure efficiency within the department. Acts as a liaison to address and resolve issues within the department. Supports the manager to ensure accurate patient health information and compliance issues are met in Total Health Care, Inc. policies/procedures, and HIPAA regulations. Responsible for training of current staff and onboarding of new hires. Assists the manager in meeting departmental goals, performance measures, and reporting measurements.Essential Job Functions:Ensures/applies policies, procedures, and standards established by Total Health Care, Inc. and the Health Information Management Department are followed consistently.Assists in the maintenance of daily work assignments; working supervision leadership role.Supervision of day-to-day operational tasks, responsible for establishing priorities and work assignments as required by staffing and workflow.Responsible for addressing any issues relevant to Health Information Management operational functions and interacts with internal or external clients to address complaints.Assists the HIM Manager/Privacy Officer with numerous tasks, including monitoring productivity standards, time analysis studies of various HIM functions for process improvement, and training/cross-training of staff/new hires as deemed necessary.Serves and attends meetings and participates on committees as appropriate.Assists the HIM Manager/Privacy Officer in monthly/quarterly medical records reviews to ensure compliance with thresholds established by Total Health Care and the Health Information Management Department.Assists in the coordination with external and internal medical record reviews/audits.Performs other work-related duties within the scope of the Health Information Management Department to ensure that essential operational tasks are met within established time frames.Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:Must be at least 18 years of age or older.High School Diploma (GED) required.Must have at least 2 to 3 years of experience preferably within Health Information Management and/or related experience.Knowledge, experience, and/or training in accurate data entry, office equipment, and procedures required.The Certified Health Information Technician (CHIT) and Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certifications are required.Minimum Qualifications:Strong customer service orientation demonstrated by the ability to be courteous, tactful, and cooperative throughout the working day.Knowledge of State/Federal Regulations as they pertain to medical record documentation requirements.Working knowledge/experience with personal computer use (Microsoft Word/Microsoft Excel), computerized patient information (EMR), and related systems.Commitment to continuous quality improvement.Ability to maintain, promote patient confidentiality and withstand the pressure of continual deadlines.Ability to concentrate and maintain accuracy in spite of frequent interruptions.Ability to communicate clearly in English in both oral and written forms of expression.Time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
