Nurse Case Manager

(NCM) to support the John P. Murtha Cancer Center (MCC) located at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, Maryland.

U.S Citizenship is required. Must have an active nursing license in the state of Maryland or compact license.The Walter Reed Bethesda Department of Head and Neck Surgery provides Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery to military members and their beneficiaries, including advanced treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, thyroid and parathyroid tumors, cutaneous malignancies, and other tumors of the head and neck. We provide cutting-edge treatments including microvascular surgery, transoral robotic surgery, along with advanced radiation therapy and chemotherapy options. We have a robust research arm and are interested in several protocols, including circulating tumor DNA from HPV+ tumors, research on cognitive function following parathyroidectomy, and obstructive sleep apnea due to head and neck oncologic surgery and treatment. An ideal candidate would be familiar with head and neck cancer and its related sequelae, and able to coordinate care between multiple services. They should also be capable of creating protocols and working with an Institutional Review Board (IRB).The John P. Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed Bethesda is a modern, patient-centric, tri-service military healthcare facility. Its comprehensive core of military and civilian oncologists and other cancer-trained clinicians and researchers provide multidisciplinary cancer-care delivery and patient-family support services. Our Cancer Center, the only DoD Cancer Center of Excellence within the Military Health System, offers its patients access to cutting-edge cancer diagnostic and treatment technologies. The Nurse Case Manager (NCM) serves as a consistent care coordinator to eligible beneficiaries at the Murtha Cancer Center WRNMMC, ensuring timely access and seamless coordination of services throughout the continuum of cancer care.The Henry M. Responsibilities

Meet in person with patients and families to provide emotional support and guidance following the diagnosis of cancer through end stage disease if necessary.Provide medical information, education, and share knowledge regarding internal and external support services and resources.Responsible for facilitating rapid scheduling to include OR scheduling and shifting of less urgent patients, coordination follow-up care, and tracking patients to ensure completion of recommended treatment plan.Identify and assist patients and families in eliminating potential barriers to care by identifying and referring to appropriate resources.Extract demographic, clinical, and laboratory data from DoD electronic and paper clinical data systems.Assist in development, testing, and revision of Project/Investigation Forms (case report forms, data extraction tools, etc.).Assist with generation of missing data elements summary.Communicate with data sources to request and obtain missing data elements.Receive, process, file, and incorporate into investigation database missing elements.Perform data entry.May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and ExperienceBachelor's Degree in nursing required.Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.Licenses and CertificationsLicensed as a Registered Nurse.Certification as CCRC or CCRP preferred.Certified in basic cardiac life support.Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of procedures and techniques necessary for performing research tasks.Ability to learn and become proficient in data acquisition and clinical responsibilities related to research protocols to include protocol writing, development and communication with the DoD IRBs.Excellent interpersonal skills.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to work as part of a team.Meticulous attention to detail.Research and or Public Health experience highly desirable.Familiarity with VA/DoD Healthcare and health information systems.US citizenship Required, Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.Physical CapabilitiesLifting: Requires lifting materials over 25 lbs.Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.Work EnvironmentThis position will take place primarily in a hospital setting.CompensationThe annual salary range for this position is $73,800-$100,000.
