Clinical Research Nurse
to support the John P. Murtha Cancer Center Research Program (MCCRP) of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). This nurse position is located at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, Maryland.
U.S. citizenship required. Must have an active Maryland or compact state nursing license.The Nurse will support a study focused on Toxin Exposure and Immune Dysregulation in Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) Across the Military Healthcare System. This study looks for patterns of specific exposures in combination with germline mutations in patients with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). The study is designed to assess the progression of different NHL subtypes based on disease exposure, germline mutations, and specific treatment given. Patients with B-cell NHL will be enrolled in a prospective registry and biorepository, collecting clinical data and biospecimens to support basic science, clinical health outcomes, multi-omics, and epidemiological research.The John P. Murtha Cancer Center Research Program at Walter Reed Bethesda is a modern, patient-centric, tri-service military healthcare facility. Its comprehensive core of military and civilian oncologists and other cancer-trained clinicians and researchers provide multidisciplinary cancer-care delivery and patient-family support services. Our Cancer Center, the only DoD Cancer Center of Excellence within the Military Health System, offers its patients access to cutting-edge cancer diagnostic and treatment technologies.The Henry M. Responsibilities
Educates the patients and their families on the research protocol and what the patient responsibilities are. Interviews patients to collect and document data on lymphoma history, treatment history, military history, medical history, and/or quality of life.Reviews patient records and screens patients for eligibility for participating in research protocol.Draws blood and obtains other specimens as required and ensures rapid shipment for processing as per the study protocol.Collects, organizes, catalogs, disseminates, and maintains appropriate files of patient data.Maintains weekly/monthly status reports on all patients.Schedules and coordinates all patient examinations, blood draws, surveys, referrals, and laboratory tests required by the protocol.Adheres to legal, professional, and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy.May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.
Qualifications
Education and ExperienceBachelor's Degree required, Master's preferred.3-5 years’ nursing experience, at least 1 year in clinical research care.Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of complex nursing procedures.Knowledge of federal and local regulations and policies pertinent to research involving human subjects.Must have oncology experience.Excellent interpersonal and computer skills.Ability to communicate effectively and to work with individuals of all levels.Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary for performing research tasks.Ability to learn and become proficient in data acquisition and clinical responsibilities related to research protocols.Licenses and CertificationsActive Maryland or compact state RN license.Certification as CCRC or CCRP preferred.Work EnvironmentThis position will take place primarily in a clinic setting.Security Requirement:
U.S. Citizenship required; Ability to obtain and maintain a T3 secret clearance.Some HJF employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
