Pathologists Assistant II.

The incumbent will be responsible for performing biospecimen collection in support of multiple Murtha Cancer Center Research Program (MCCRP) research protocols at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, Maryland to help expand the MCC biorepository throughout the MHS-wide Military Clinical Trials Network.This position will be in support of the John P. Murtha Cancer Center. The John P. Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed Bethesda is a modern, patient-centric, tri-service military healthcare facility. Its comprehensive core of military and civilian oncologists and other cancer-trained clinicians and researchers provide multidisciplinary cancer-care delivery and patient-family support services. Our Cancer Center, the only DoD Cancer Center of Excellence within the Military Health System, offers its patients access to cutting-edge cancer diagnostic and treatment technologies.The Henry M. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.Note: This position requires U.S. Citizenship.Responsibilities

Performs gross dissection of a variety of specimens, prioritizing fresh tissue collection from complex cancer specimens for research samples to support MCCRP research protocols.Provides Pathologists' Assistant level support for the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory including performing technical duties as a Pathologists' Assistant while maintaining full compliance with all requirements of the CAP and appropriate regulatory agencies.Assists with the collection and entry of all specimen-related data for the database; assists with clinical data and outcome collection of patient information as required for MCCRP research protocols.Participates in MCCRP QA meetings and implements QM initiatives approved by the MCCB Director. Proposes new QA indicators for consideration and assesses their effectiveness.Assists pathologists in implementing and monitoring research protocols as they apply to all tissue banking activities.Ability to operate and maintain lab equipment, maintains equipment in good working order, orders supplies and equipment repairs as needed.Handles and processes human samples consistent with departmental SOPs.Ensures compliance with established laboratory practice and safety guidelines.Must have ability to design, develop and optimize SOPs; must have strong organizational skills; ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the position.Qualifications

Education and ExperienceMaster's Degree or equivalent.Graduate of Pathologists' Assistant Program.Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.Licenses and CertificationsAmerican Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification required.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge and expertise in working with all types of specimens.Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and supplies.Ability to follow detailed instructions.Ability to handle multiple tasks.Ability to work independently and collaboratively.Adheres to legal, professional, and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality.Work EnvironmentThis position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.Physical CapabilitiesAbility to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 70 lbs with assistance.Security Requirements:

US Citizenship required; Ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
