Job Summary/ResponsibilitiesAECOM is seeking a highly motivated Climate Action Project Manager preferably based in San Francisco or Sacramento, California. The selected candidate will join the Sustainability and Climate Planning team whose primary emphasis is to promote socioeconomic and environmental sustainability in urban design, city planning, infrastructure development, and policy projects. This is accomplished through rigorous greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate policy analysis, economic and strategic planning techniques, and developing innovative analytical approaches to provide solutions that deliver sustainability in varied domestic and international contexts.The Climate Action Project Manager will primarily focus on project management across a range of topics, including GHG inventory development and analysis, decarbonization strategy development, climate action planning, community and stakeholder engagement, and possibly broader sustainability/ESG projects. This candidate will be responsible for leading and contributing to technical analysis and research across the group’s projects with typical clients to include local governments, public agencies, state-level departments, and potentially the private sector. Candidates may also contribute to the group’s resilience and adaptation planning work as well.Qualified candidates will have excellent project management, analytical, writing, and communication skills with a demonstrated professional consulting background in climate action planning. Experience in urban planning, transportation planning analysis, policy writing, and climate adaptation/resilience planning are also useful. The candidate must have demonstrated expertise in GHG emissions analysis, including experience with multiple GHG protocols and inventory development tools/resources.Example project types:

Climate Action Plans for cities, counties, and other public sector organizations across a range of sizesGreenhouse gas inventory and forecast development, inventory trainingClimate equity analysesKnowledge and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Experience developing GHG emissions inventories, climate action plan policy development, and/or GHG emissions reduction analysisConsulting or local government experience in climate action planning, particularly policy and program design for cities and countiesDemonstrated knowledge of community climate action planning; strategy identification; federal/state funding mechanisms; federal and state climate/decarbonization policies and programs, best practices, and standardsExcellent communication and writing skills are critical; writing sample to be submitted with applicationContribute or support the development or implementation of climate action and sustainability plans, strategies, and similar policy initiativesDevelop or contribute to capacity building activities including developing decision support tools, strategy development and community engagementPrepare and/or review strategic plans, guidelines, reports, presentations, and tools to meet project needsInterpret and apply applicable local, regional, state, and federal climate action and emissions reduction guidance, policy, or regulationsContribute to and coordinate public engagement, stakeholder workshops and other elements of the outreach and engagement process for planning documents and project approvalsConsult with other professionals on technical aspects of project and program developmentResearch and analyze data on climate, environmental conditions, demographic, and socio-economic factorsWork collaboratively with a team of professionals and supervise staffContribute to growth of the climate action practice through the identification of public and private client relationships, business development, networking, and proposalsDemonstrated experience in project or program management and delivery and team managementExperience and success in client and business developmentExperience and interest in delivering conference presentations, technical training, and/or external outreachBecome an AECOM certified project manager within 6-months of startingQualifications

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in city and regional planning, environmental policy, or related from an accredited universitySix (6) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationPreferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., city and regional planning, environmental policy, etc.) from an accredited universityDemonstrated knowledge of local government climate change/sustainability policy and program development10+ years of experience at a planning consulting firm, or equivalent with demonstrated experience in project management, leading technical analysis, writing reports, and leading or supporting business development effortsExcellent quantitative skills (advanced Excel skills); coding and/or decision-support tool development experience a plusTravel demand analysis and/or transportation planning experienceExperience working within and managing a budgetCommitment to mentoring junior staffDetail-oriented: Strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn more and innovate, and a desire to work in a dynamic, deadline driven team environmentHas a solid foundation of understanding or analysis of client business practices and goals; develops and formulates solutions to client problems on assigned projectsUnder general direction, responsible for the creation of work plans and task definitionsHas broad technical knowledge but possesses an area of specialization or focusAdditional Information
