Essential Job Functions:

Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on emergency generators to ensure operation and reliability of systems across NSU buildings.Supervises the work of HVAC Technicians to ensure timely response to customers.Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems and equipment to ensure reliability across NSU buildings.Reviews and documents work and purchase orders, bids and material lists to account for materials purchased and time spent in completing assigned work.Maintains cost, inspection and maintenance records on generators, power systems, HVAC equipment, boilers, exhaust systems, air compressors, and vacuum equipment.Provides technical expertise and guidance to facilities personnel and outside contractors.Oversees vendors and contractors to ensure quality work is completed in a timely manner.Prepares reports of inspection, and labor and material estimates.Notifies appropriate University personnel of building conditions, equipment, and scheduled dates for repairs.Responds to 24-hour emergencies for building and equipment repair.Provides contract management for all generator, power systems, HVAC equipment, boilers, exhaust systems, air compressors, and vacuum equipment vendors.Performs other duties as assigned.

Specific Requirements:

24/7 on call status for emergencies and hurricane response.Ability to work on a rotational shift, (days, nights, weekends and holidays).Work overtime as required.

Marginal Job Functions:

Assume leadership for the HVAC department in the absence of the HVAC Manager.Attends training as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively with others.Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisory staff at all levels and the NSU community.Ability to express ideas effectively and concisely.Ability to work effectively in a service oriented environment and with frequently changing priorities.Ability to follow through and carry out assignments.Problem solving skills and sound judgment.Ability to understand and apply University and Departmental policies and procedures.Knowledge of proper and safe use of tools, lubricating chemicals etc.Knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures in area(s) of specialty.Ability to do basic arithmetic.Knowledge of local, state & federal HVAC codes.Awareness of proper use and hazards of chemicals.Knowledge of safety standards in working with tools and equipment.Knowledge of electrical systems/theories, plumbing systems and operations and generator system circuit boards.Repairing of diesel, propane and natural gas engines and generators.Ability to read & interpret blueprints, sketches and schematics.Ability to inspect parts and read equipment diagrams, charts and other visuals.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.Must be able to safely lift 85 lbs.Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to pipes, wiring and equipment.Handles a variety of hand and power tools.Near-visual acuity needed to read equipment diagrams and inspect parts.Depth perception, field of vision and color vision needed in fitting and installing parts.Exposed to wet and very hot conditions.Exposed to noise and vibration from operating machinery.Must be able to lift any trade tools, material and equipment.Must be able to reach overhead.May be required to work in confined areas to access equipment.

Job Requirements:Required Certifications/Licensures:

Have and maintain a valid Florida Driver license with no more than 3 points.Journeyman card (in a related HVAC field).EPA certified.

Required Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Required Experience:

Five (5) or more years experience in repairing & maintenance of standby generators or HVAC equipment and repair.Experience related to power generating plants or HVAC equipment may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
