to join our
Urban Land Development Group
located in our
Raleigh, NC
office location. Civil engineering experience and dry utility construction experience preferred. The qualified candidate must be able to perform all aspects of dry utility plan preparation and permit procurement.The qualified candidate must be able to successfully manage all aspects of dry utility plan preparation and permit procurement. This would include preparation of specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, cost estimates, and budgets associated with the planning, design, permitting, and construction of dry utility systems (power, gas, telecommunications) primarily within Central Virginia.The candidate must also be able to oversee the permit process with the local utilities, and provide consultation and recommendations regarding dry utility systems, processes, equipment, facilities, and construction methods to the developer.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling and Civil 3D technologyComplete calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilize computers to solve problemsPrepare specifications materials through the use of research and manufacturing catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection, and payment of items specific to a projectWork to complete design details and plan sets related to dry utilitiesPerform research and write objective summary reports which are used in the completion of the project work or inspectionAssist in the preparation of engineer and construction cost estimatesCoordinate between utility owners, developers, and internal staffComplete field observation, inspection, and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staffComplete other tasks as assignedSkills/Requirements
A bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related degree strongly preferredIdeal candidates would have 4 plus years of experience in Land Development civil engineering including urban and dry utility system design as well as commercial and mixed-use developmentProficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a mustProject management experience, including application and plan oversight, and permit procurementBroad knowledge and experience with local regulations, guides, standards, codes methods, practices, and engineering principlesStrong teamwork and interpersonal skillsStrong written and oral communication skillsGeneral knowledge of NCOT Right of Way requirementsKnowledge of Duke Energy, Dominion Energy, PSNC, Piedmont Natural Gas, Frontier Natural Gas, NC water and sewer utilities, cable service providers and their regulations and approval processes.Good understanding of construction practices related to dry utility installation and relocationsThe requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
