This role involves developing and executing county-wide therapeutic recreational programs that cater to the community's needs. It includes organizing various programs and activities, collaborating with partners, managing FT and PT staff and volunteers, budget management, ensuring safety and compliance, evaluating program effectiveness, and providing excellent customer service.The position requires adaptability to varying schedules (some nights and weekends) and staying informed about industry trends.Additionally, it involves data entry and monitoring using CivicRec software. This position will oversee sports, leagues, fitness, enrichment, arts, and culture programs that service therapeutic recreation.Essential Job Duties

Research, develop, and implement comprehensive therapeutic recreational programs that meet the needs and interests of constituents County-wide.Plan, organize, and coordinate a variety of therapeutic recreational activities, including sports leagues, fitness programs, arts and crafts, and special events.Collaborate with community organizations and partners to enhance program offerings and promote participation.Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate program coordinators, staff members, and volunteers.Develop and manage program budgets, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently. Maintain and update program policies and procedures to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.Conduct regular evaluations and assessments of program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements.Provide excellent customer service to program participants, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally.Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, creativity, and personal growth.Stay up to date with trends and best practices in the field of recreation and parks management.Enter and monitor programs and data into the registration software: CivicRec.Work hours and weekly schedule vary week to week, weekends, and seasonally.Examples of Other Duties

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation and parks, physical education, business or public administration, behavioral or health sciences, education, or a closely related field. Experience as described in Essential Job Duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.Preferred Qualifications

Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a teamExcellent organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlinesKnowledge of therapeutic programming principles, techniques, and trendsFamiliarity with budgeting, financial management, and resource allocationEffective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse groups of individualsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities (Entry Level)

Knowledge of the principles, practices, and theory of therapeutic programming recreational and leisure activities. Ability to manage a recreation center, park, or related facility. Ability to supervise and train staff. Ability to recruit, train, and guide volunteers. Ability to supervise the receipt and accounting of fees. Ability to gather fiscal data and prepare financial reports. Ability to assist in the planning, organizing, and supervising of recreation and parks programs for a community. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the public, other agencies, and co-workers. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to represent the department at meetings.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Full Performance)

Knowledge of County and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of departmental recreation and parks programs, services, and operations. Knowledge of the principles and practices of managing a recreation facility. Skill in the management of a recreation center, park, or related facility. Skill in the supervision and training of staff. Employees in this classification may be assigned to work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.Physical and Environmental Conditions

The work of this classification entails some physical labor including walking over rough and uneven surfaces in the inspection of facilities and grounds, and some lifting and carrying of items. The work entails travel to recreation and park sites, facilities, and meetings throughout the County.Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
