We're seeking a talented Senior Product Designer to help define and design compelling experiences that empower people to achieve more together. You will shape the direction of the core communication and collaboration experiences for Microsoft Teams, the chat-based collaboration app that is changing how people work together. Our design team is a highly collaborative group of user researchers, engineers, and product designers. We value creativity, open idea sharing, and having fun while we work. We are looking for a well-rounded, experienced product designer that can conceptualize the big picture as well as drive detailed design development for collaboration and communications user experiences. You should have a proven record of innovative thinking, a history of using design to drive new ideas and the ability to help others to make the right design decisions.

At the core of this job, candidates will help work directly with other design teams inside of Microsoft, to drive shared experiences inside and outside of the Teams app, as well as improve the general craftsmanship of the product in a tactical way across mobile and desktop. In this role, you will be working very closely with developers to implement high quality, well-crafted, design-led initiatives. Successful candidates must be able to articulate their thinking using a variety of mediums from design mocks, interaction flows to detailed prototypes and specifications. We expect that you will need to show attention to detail and passion in the work produced.

ResponsibilitiesWill own experiences from end to end. Contributes to and begins to mentor other members and provides feedback on the design thinking and ways to frame the problem space to illicit provocative discussions and paths forward. Sets the appropriate context for a given problem space, whether it is critical data on the competitive landscape, user quotes, market opportunities or pressures, and articulating what success means, before addressing potential solutions. Aligns stakeholders at every phase of the project.Communicates and sets a cadence to be syncing with critical stakeholders, while simultaneously helping people not have meeting overload. Works practically with others and can identify how to get the most out of someone, and have fun driving the project together as a team.Interacts with engineering for successful design implementation and performs quality assurances to help them ensure delivery of design requirements. Demonstrates ability to challenge limitations, negotiate with Engineering, adjust Engineering schedules, find alternatives, and make cases for designs to be implemented a certain way.Generates and is able to lead ideation solutions for complex design problems (e.g. involving many constraints, needing workarounds, requiring holistic view of interconnected systems) to deliver sophisticated and elegant product design solutions. Utilizes a variety of perspectives when ideating (e.g. experience, technology, user research, business). Synthesizes complex ideation solutions to concise articulation of user wants and subsequent solutions.Advocate for your design solutions by putting audience in context of business and user goals.Be self-directed and highly organized. QualificationsRequired/Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service designOR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service designOR equivalent experience (e.g., experience using design thinking to solve problems)

Preferred Qualifications:An online portfolio demonstrating well-rounded software design experience across multiple projectsDemonstrated experience in enterprise software designAbility to prototype and a history of working with engineers to implement and test solutionsAbility to breakdown a design vision into a phased plan for implementationRelated graphic or visual design experienceProficiency in FigmaExperience working with and presenting to executives or senior stakeholdersExperience is cross platform designExperience working directly with users, running studies, or collaborating with a researcherAbility to be a team player and work well with others in a team settingAbility to clearly articulate customer value on any feature or user experience designCross-team communication, presentation, persuasion, negotiation skills to get buy-in on your design, and conflict resolutionBringing a creative mindset.

Product Design IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
