Job Summary

The Senior Planner performs professional planning functions in support of the Department of Planning and Development's operations.

Essential Job Functions

Supports the successful implementation of the City's land development and permitting procedures;

Evaluates and processes applications for Planning Commission staff reports;

Evaluates land subdivision applications for compliance with the City's subdivision ordinance;

Conducts zoning reviews for occupational tax certificates, building permits, sign permits, zoning certifications, and land use applications;

Facilitates complex projects related to land use and development programs such as comprehensive plans or other plans related to growth, development, and redevelopment;

Interprets the City's Unified Development Code;

Conducts on-site reviews and inspections;

Analyzes site design, circulation, land use compatibility, utilities, and other facilities;

Assists with the administration of the City's housing program;

Assists the public, builders, property owners, staff, and others with general ordinance and code questions;

Facilitates workshops, meetings, community outreach events, and public hearings;

Collaborates with GIS to maintain up-to-date zoning maps and land use maps;

Prepares staff reports for the Planning Commission.

Requirements to Perform Work

Bachelor's Degree and three years of planning experience or a Master's Degree and two years of planning experience;

Valid State of Georgia Driver's License;

Advanced knowledge of the philosophies, principles, practices, and techniques of planning

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Five or more years of relevant experience;

American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification
