A collective of institutions and leaders, the African American Leadership Forum serves as a community innovation accelerator. We empower Black communities to imagine, then create an equitable future. As a think-and-do-tank for the state of Minnesota, we combine the functions of a think tank (providing research and analysis of social/ political issues) with the action-oriented role of an activist organization.

What We Do:

Using data research and policy, discourse-driven convenings, design innovation, and strategic leadership development, the Forum drives for change by confronting racism and inequities, to improve the living standards of Black Minnesotans.

Operations Manager

The Forum is seeking a highly skilled Operations Manager to join our transformative organization. The Operations Manager will be a critical part of our team, responsible for ensuring that operations run seamlessly, supporting focus on our core mission: driving systemic change and improving the lives of Black Minnesotans. This role requires a strategic thinker who can manage the day-to-day operational activities of the organization while also being forward-thinking in implementing systems and processes that enhance efficiency, foster collaboration, and support the long-term strategic goals of the Forum. The Operations Manager will support the HR and operational functions including technology. They will optimize workflows and create an environment where innovation can thrive. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented leader with a passion for operational excellence and a commitment to social justice. The Operations Manager will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and will have the chance to make a significant impact within an organization dedicated to fostering equity, innovation, and community-driven solutions.

Pay Transparency:

At The Forum, we offer a transparent view into two key components of your total compensation package: Base Salary and Benefits. Learn more about the benefits package this role is eligible to participate in below. For our Operations Manager position, our salary range is $65,000 - $75,000, based on experience. This role has been classified as a regular full-time, exempt role that is paid on a salaried basis.

Job Responsibilities:

Operational Oversight

Manage the organization's daily operations, ensuring that processes are efficient, aligned with mission, and conducive to achieving strategic goals.

Provide operational support to staff, ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to excel in their roles.

In partnership with the COO (Chief Operating Officer) and Office Manager, oversee the maintenance and optimization of office infrastructure, including technology, facilities, and vendor management.

Develop, implement, and refine operational policies and procedures to support organizational growth and sustainability.

Continuously assess and improve operations processes, leveraging the latest tools and best practices.

Human Resources and Recruiting

Lead the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and hiring, ensuring that the organization attracts and retains top talent.

Lead the onboarding of new employees, ensuring a smooth integration into the organization.

Manage employee training and development programs, ensuring that staff are equipped with the tools needed within their roles.

Support the development and implementation of strategies for employee engagement, retention, and professional growth.

Coordinate with executive leadership to identify staffing needs and develop recruitment plans that align with the departmental objectives.

Financial and Resource Management

Manage the draft and execution of the vendor contracting process, which includes providing decision makers with tools that ensure all vendor contracts align with the organization's strategic goals and deliver the best value.

Compliance and Risk Management

Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and organizational requirements, including data privacy and security protocols.

Identify and mitigate operational risks, implementing proactive measures to protect the organization's assets and reputation.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.

4 + years of experience in operations management, human resources, or a similar role.

Strong team management skills, with the ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Proficiency in HR management software, office technology, and contract management tools.

Demonstrated project management experience.

Experience using the Microsoft 365 Suite and cloud-based internet applications.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Ability to build strong relationships while navigating complexity.

Forward-thinking, adaptive mindset with strong critical thinking skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
