DescriptionThe University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a Financial Aid Assistant Director to be responsible for administering federal, state, and institutional programs to fulfill federal and state requirements and serves as the liaison for the School of Dentistry, School of Medicine, and School of Optometry. This includes being the direct point of contact, and participating in professional school interviews, orientations, and committees.

Responsibilities also include processing the health professional schools scholarships and student loans. Will provide personal counseling, information and guidance to students and parents concerning financial assistance programs. Processes updates and changes according to student and program needs for administering financial aid awards and disbursements. Conducts financial aid presentations for undergraduate and graduate program orientations as well as various UAB events.

Must maintain a current working knowledge of federal regulations by attending regular training, conferences, and continuing communication with other aid professionals is required.

Additional responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

Prepares new year set up for adding cost of attendance and academic year updates in Banner for processing federal aid for health professional students.

Handles critical daily processes for reviewing potential overawards, loan limit reviews, and change of program reviews for federal eligibility.

Serves on the Financial Aid Appeals committee and assists with the appeal process.

Monthly reconciliation for the Federal Pell Grant and awarding/monitoring TEACH grants.

Processes Title IV adjustments such as returns, loan increases/decreases, and updates to student files.

Annual loan cleanup, reconciling duplicate awards for students dually enrolled at UAB and another institution, and reviewing unusual enrollment through the verification process.

Provides general help/resource for Financial Aid, One Stop, and Scholarships staff members – answer questions and review student accounts throughout the day as well as assist as back up for other daily processes.

This list of responsibilities dedicated to this position is not an all-inclusive list since additional tasks may be assigned to assist in meeting federal compliance requirements with the U.S. Department of Education.

(Annual Salary: $43,890 - $45,000)

QualificationsBachelor's degree in Finance or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Must have excellent customer service skills and ability to multitask to handle high volume calls, student walk-ins, and emails. Preference is given to those with at least three years progressive experience processing federal financial aid in a higher education environment. Banner experience is a plus.
