Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist I for the department of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The position will entail conducting data analysis, report-writing, and preparation of papers for publication using data collected as part of a series of epidemiological studies on the mental health and addiction treatment needs of New Jersey residents.Key Duties:Perform various research and technical operations related to ongoing epidemiological studies of the substance use and mental health status of NJ residents.Develop surveys, survey methodologies, and analytic strategies designed to answer New Jersey state-level policy questions on population impacts of mental and substance abuse programs.Supervise the activities of subordinate staff (such as lower-level professional staff, technicians, and laboratory assistants). Train and instruct subordinate staff. Carry out performance evaluations. Participate in the hiring process.Train, supervise, and coordinate research staff in conducting data collection.Perform statistical analyses.Write final reports to funding agencies.Lead or assist with manuscript preparation.Position Status

Full TimeMinimum Education and Experience

Ph.D. in a relevant science, or a Master’s Degree in a relevant science plus three (3) or more years of related research experience. Relevant Sciences include Clinical Psychology or social science devoted to population-level mental health.Experience with both survey design and analysis, mental health and substance abuse-related research, and specific experience working with individuals with substance use and/or mental health disorders is essential.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The candidate must have good interpersonal skills as they need to be able to work well with collaborators across multiple departments and research participants, including research participants who may have neuropsychiatric problems.The candidate must possess demonstrated skills in writing and statistical analysis.Preferred Qualifications

Prior supervisory/lead experience is an asset.Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, or hearing. No special vision requirements. Must be able to lift or exert up to 25 pounds.Work Environment: Office (dry lab) environment. Moderate noise.Special Conditions
