We are seeking a Lactation Consultant to join our program, to work as a Lactation and Infant Feeding Specialist supporting Women’s and Child Health at the Grey Nuns and Misericordia. This unique role will mainly be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating education and related supports for our patients and families, healthcare providers and supports across the perinatal and neonatal continuum of care. The goal of the work being consistent messaging for all patients and staff related to all aspects of infant feeding. The ideal candidate would have experience with providing expert advice and support to new mothers on breastfeeding, lactation-related issues and all infant feeding options. Familiarity with the Baby-Friendly Initiative (BFI) is an asset as the role will involve supporting sustainment of effective education and practices related to the BFI at each site. The role will include supporting nursing staff in navigating lactation and feeding challenges, as well as participation in program, site and regional committees, and leading Antenatal education for patients and families. The Infant Feeding and Lactation Specialist is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the mission, vision, values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health.Description:

Reporting to the Program Manager, Women’s & Child Health GNCH (WCH), the Lactation & Infant Feeding Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating education and related supports to healthcare providers, volunteers, students and families across the perinatal and neonatal continuum of care. The Lactation & Infant Feeding Specialist will function as a leader and change agent in the pursuit of excellence in patient care. The Lactation Specialist will ensure the delivery of quality infant feeding education and excellence in practices by enhancing staff development, orientation, education and functional supervision to ensure quality care competencies. This individual will promote excellence in infant feeding practices, identify and take steps to rectify gaps in the practice of health care providers, and ensure a positive and effective relationship with patients, families, interdisciplinary team members and other stakeholders is maintained. The Lactation & Infant Feeding Specialist provides leadership that will enhance a positive relationship with patient/family, members of interdisciplinary team and community agencies and supports and participates in research that enhances quality improvement of infant feeding. The Lactation Specialist is prepared to manage multiple, competing priorities and fosters team/group effectiveness by modelling excellent practice and effective interpersonal skills.Union:

Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field. Registered with the applicable professional association or college under the Health Professions Act. International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification. Current experience in breastfeeding assessment and management.Additional Required Qualifications:

Previous experience as a Lactation Consultant. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Experience with delivering programming and development of orientation and education. Experience coaching and mentoring staff, assessing learning requirements, developing training materials. Strong relationship building skills, effective time management skills. Knowledge of Women’s and Child health.Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years recent experience working with Maternal-Newborn population. Experience in Adult Education.Hiring Requirements
