To provide clerical and functional support to the department director/administrator involving in depth knowledge of departmental and School Board policies, practices and procedures.ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Office Manager shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below.Follow instructions, established policies and procedures in the performance of clerical work in support of the administrative functions of the office.Assist the director/administrator with a wide diversification of programs/activities.Plan, initiate and carry out clerical and other administrative activities, including limited secretarial duties.Arrange for conferences, including space, time and place; inform participants and provide information required.Serve as recording secretary at conferences/meetings /hearings; prepare minutes for distribution.Receive/disseminate incoming mail; compose appropriate responses to inquiries that do not require the director's/administrator's personal attention.Screen telephone calls, ascertain nature of business, and answer, if possible, or refer to correct department; greet visitors, offer suggestions and guidance in order to maintain good public relations for the school system.Keep informed of department staff's locations and actions in case of emergencies.Work on special projects, involving researching, collecting, analyzing and evaluating data to be submitted as background material for staff use.Meet and deal effectively with general public, staff members, students, teachers, parents and administrators, using tact and good judgment.Provide functional leadership to other clerical staff personnel.Operate standard office equipment, such as any generation of typewriter, calculator, CRT terminal, microcomputer, word processor, duplicator, etc., as well as equipment developed or advanced from future technology.Participate, successfully, in the training programs offered to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignment.Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.Perform other duties as assigned by the department head.Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.Six (6) years of related work experience.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.An excellent command of English grammar.Ability to independently compose correspondence and prepare reports in an articulate manner.Ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions.Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.Ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.Experience in using electronic office automation equipment is required.Computer skills as required for the position.Must have passing test scores:Speed - 40Accuracy - 70The hiring administrator may specify preferred, appropriate additional qualifications as may be related to the job.OR
