The Director of Counseling manages the day-to-day operations of the Counseling Center, including supervision of professional staff and practicum and internship students, budget oversight, and all operational and accountability functions. This position provides individual and group counseling as well as crisis intervention services to students. The Director advises the Vice President for Student Affairs regarding emerging trends in counseling which may affect campus life and/or student development. This position will also provide psycho-educational programming including seminars and workshops to address preventative and developmental needs of students.Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities)

Provides clinical supervision to clinical counselors and Counselor Education students at the practicum and internship level. The Director creates, coordinates, and implements outreach programs by offering workshops and conducting presentations.Is responsible for providing personal counseling and/or crisis intervention to students in an individual or group setting. This includes short-term counseling to students who are experiencing emotional, academic, social, or adjustment problems.Maintains appropriate documentation for client records.Provides crisis assessment and intervention.Makes appropriate referrals to outside agencies when a higher level of care is needed.Assigns case loads to all professional staff and Counselor Education students.Provides direct individual and group supervision to all professional staff and Counselor Education students.Develops policies and procedures for the Counseling Center.Facilitates and coordinates pertinent training(s) for Counseling Services staff.Keeps monthly and yearly statistics and conducts surveys and assessments to assist in developing programs that will aid in student development and retention.Co-chairs the CARE Team.Supports the training and awareness of suicide prevention on campus.Demonstrates awareness of one’s own cultural beliefs, perspectives, and privileges as a part of one’s orientation toward leadership.Maintains a bias toward decision-making that is informed by research, data, and theory and that leverages students’ unique cultures, experiences, and backgrounds as strengths.Builds a culture of collaboration, teamwork, and “over-communication” that fosters collaboration within and across departmental lines.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications

MA in Counseling, psychology or related field.Five (5) years counseling experience, 3 years post-graduate.Must have or be eligible for the LPC (licensed professional counselor).Completion of supervisory requirements as determined by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).Proficient in use of technology as required by the position.Excellent interpersonal skills.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Demonstrated knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of psychological counseling and therapy, including the understanding of developmental needs of young adults and positive techniques for addressing their varied practical and emotional needs.Relevant ability working with under-served and/or underrepresented populations.Ability to treat others with respect, civility, and courtesy and to work honestly, effectively, and collegially with employees, students, and the community. This includes the ability to use appropriate conflict management skills to effectively manage any disagreement that might arise or to seek assistance in productive resolution when the situation requires.Salary and Benefits:The salary range for this position is $68,052-77,412.
