We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Public Health Planner, playing a crucial role in planning and implementing health initiatives tailored to our unique community needs.Position Overview:This position runs from 7/1/2024 – 3/31/2026, with potential renewal based on available funding. This person will be instrumental in planning, implementing, and evaluating public health programs, with a strong focus on addressing social determinants of health to advance public health in Montgomery Township. The ideal candidate would be a self-starter, proactive, and capable of working autonomously, with a strong commitment to public service and community health.Job Duties / Responsibilities:Critical Social Services Response:Coordinate response efforts for critical social services.Assist in updating and maintaining the State’s Register Ready system for medically vulnerable individuals.Act as the Health Department liaison in response to community calls related to social determinants of health needs.Facilitate communication and collaboration among response agencies.Public Health Planning:Plan, implement, and evaluate public health programs and policies.Conduct comprehensive reviews of evidence related to community health assessment and planning, and develop/maintain resources related to new and emerging methods.Collect and analyze demographic and health status data.Review community health data to identify areas of concern.Act as lead writer, researcher & gather data for grant proposals.Interpret funding agency guidelines for management staff and leadership team.Prepare reports and presentations for the Health Officer and Board of Health.Collaborate with municipal staff, community stakeholders, and residents.Ensure appropriate data collection, analysis, and measurable outcomes.Assist in reviewing, updating, and streamlining department reporting procedures.Public Health Preparedness and Response:Review and update emergency preparedness plans.Coordinate with emergency management agencies.Plan, coordinate, and participate in preparedness drills, exercises, and Points of Dispensing (PODs).Provide support during disease outbreaks and investigations.Public Health Accreditation Support:Assist in maintaining and updating documentation for public health accreditation.Departmental Support:Assist in planning and executing public health events and campaigns.Develop and deliver educational training programs and outreach activities.Address various public health inquiries and requests.Qualifications:A master’s degree in public health is required, or candidate must be currently enrolled in a relevant program.Minimum of three years of relevant experience working in a local health department.Specialized training, minor, or certification in public health preparedness, health education, environmental health, or community health preferred.Experience in community health assessment and community health improvement planning.Experience with research and/or grant writing.Demonstrated knowledge of public health quality performance standards, performance measurement, quality improvement process guidelines, reporting, and PHAB Standards.Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present in front of groups.Ability to build trusting relationships with community partners, staff, and the public.Skills in data analysis and online engagement tools preferred.A valid state of New Jersey driver’s license.Required Key Technical Skills, Knowledge & Education:Problem-Solver: Persistence in the face of challenges and professionalism in stressful situations.Change Maker: Adaptability and excitement for systems change, with an interest in learning about various public health programs.Team Oriented: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with municipal and county staff and local public health partners.Computer and Technology Savvy: Proficient in data analysis, GIS, health informatics, survey tools, project management software, data visualization, and social media platforms.Data Analytics and Assessment: Identify, collect, and analyze data to address community health needs.Policy Development and Program Planning: Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and programs to impact health and well-being.Communication: Employ effective communication strategies to convey information and build trust with communities.Community Partnership: Develop relationships within the community to advance collaboration and improve community health.Public Health Science: Use evidence-based practices to research and deliver public health services.Management and Finance: Secure and manage resources to achieve program and organizational goals.Leadership and Systems Thinking: Engage with cross-sector partners to improve community health.Working Conditions:Office environment with frequent fieldwork.Occasional evening and weekend work required based on community needs.Ability to travel within the community and attend meetings and events as needed.Availability during public health emergencies and community outreach events.Education/Certification / License Required:Master’s in Public Health or related field.Or be in the process or course of studies to complete Master’s Degree in related field or Public Health.CPH – Certification in Public Health or REHS – Registered Environmental Health Specialist or CHES -
