Salary Listed is the full range, minimum to maximum, for the position and is effective on October 1st, 2024.First review of applicants will occur on September 20th, 2024.

The Building Official is responsible for ensuring adherence to and compliance with applicable Village, local, state and federal code and regulatory requirements regarding new and existing construction. This administrator performs professional, technical, managerial and administrative functions in relation to regulatory standards, inspection activities, enforcement of the building codes and Village ordinances, permitting and business taxation.Makes the final interpretation of building codes, statutes and regulations associated with construction of structures.Creates policies and procedures for overall operations of the Building Division, including application processing, inspection procedures and building plan examination and review.Develops, establishes and enforces regulations pertinent to securing business tax receipts.Manages technical and administrative staff in the enforcement of Village ordinances affiliated with building codes, business tax certificate regulations and contractor certifications.Prepares documentation regarding Building Division activities, e.g., monthly reports, draft and revised codes and ordinances.Provides technical plan review, inspection services and interpretation of the various building codes for enforcement.Receives, responds and provides resolution to inquiries and concerns from the general public, the business community, Village officials, and other departments regarding the Division’s relevant issues.Plans, develops, implements and administers the Division’s operating budget, ensuring adherence to established budgetary parameters.Maintains current knowledge of trends and regulatory developments, recommending changes and preparing revisions to building codes in order to uphold modern and updated construction standards.Performs routine personnel tasks, i.e., interviewing, hiring, disciplining employees, evaluating staff performance and recommending terminations.Attends and provides presentations as needed to various committees, boards and building interests groups.Supervises office activities and serves as acting director in the absence of the Director of Community Development for matters pertaining to Building Division functions.(The above list of essential functions is not meant to be all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.)High school diploma or G.E.D. (Bachelor’s degree in an industry-related field preferred).Seven (7) years professional experience in the field of construction, building code inspection, and/or plan review, to include at least three (3) years of managerial/supervisory responsibility.Certified by the State of Florida as Building Code Administrator under 468, Florida Statutes, Part XII;Extensive knowledge of federal, state, county and Village codes, ordinances and regulations pertaining to building construction and inspection methods, procedures, practices and techniques.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Valid Florida driver’s license.Knowledge of current technology and software applications appropriate to the assigned job responsibilities.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSTasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Some tasks may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects. Tasks associated with this position include comprehensive inspections on undeveloped and/or finished construction sites, including high rise buildings.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTSThe employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and may be subjected to unpleasant environmental factors, e.g., heat, humidity, inclement weather. Some tasks include working in and around active construction sites, where heightened awareness to surroundings and observance of established safety precautions are essential in avoidance of injury or accidents.
