Position Information

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Project Manager for the Institute of Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research. The Research Project Manager at the Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Science serves as Lead Analyst for multiple large, complex health services research studies involving longitudinal modeling of extremely large healthcare datasets in support of multiple research grants funded by

and other competitive funders.Among the key duties of the position are the following:Develops and implements statistical approaches to data analysis and modeling of exposures, treatments, and healthcare outcomes, serving as a core member of investigative teams for several major pharmacoepidemiologic studies, and providing biostatistical expertise and support to investigative teams.Provides biostatistical consultation and expertise to research teams; collaborate with faculty investigators in planning and implementing complex pharmacoepidemiologic analyses.Manages and cleans large healthcare datasets incorporating millions or billions of records.Assists with preparation of scientific abstracts and journal articles reporting results, along with related project documents.Assists with the development of funding applications to extend current lines of research.Provides training and direction as appropriate to students, research assistants, and junior analysts.Develops and manages project work plans for carrying out analyses of data; and provides technical advice to faculty researchers.The position requires high-level skills in statistical analysis, as well as expertise in research methodology including epidemiological and health services research methodology.The position has extensive scope for independent judgment in assuming responsibility for high-level professional work including project management, the scope for the independent exercise of judgment, and high-level statistical analysis.Takes the lead on the data management and analysis of assigned projects with particular emphasis on integrated health care claims data.Provides project management to assure timely completion of project and paper timelines, keeping other project team members informed about the progress of analyses and results.Contributes as a co-author for refereed abstracts and publications of original, high-quality scholarship.Collaborates on the development of dissemination documents to communicate research results to a range of audiences.Demonstrates a high level of initiative and ability to work independently.Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a bachelor's degree in a related scientific field or discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general research principles and practices.Also requires computer literacy, a minimum of three years of relevant professional research experience, a minimum of 2 years' experience with managing and analyzing large datasets.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have excellent communication skills.Must have excellent skills in planning and organizing data, information and resources as well as in information integration, independent decision-making, and attaining results.This position requires substantial experience conducting sophisticated statistical analyses of large, complex datasets including experience with

SAS , R, and/or Stata, statistical modeling, and health care informatics.Must understand the federal privacy regulations, be aware of the function, operation, and importance of the

and human subjects protections.Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in Biostatistics, epidemiology, Economics, Statistics or related field.Minimum of 3 years experience in application of biostatistical methods to clinical or population health research.Experience with biostatistical methods appropriate to Center's pharmacoepidemiologic studies including survival analysis, proportional hazards modeling, and multilevel modeling.High level of expertise in use of

SAS

for data management and biostatistical analysis of administrative claims or electronic health records data to address health services research questions.Familiarity with

SQL .Experience with analytic methods for analysis of healthcare episodes in healthcare claims data, including definition of index events, construction of lookback periods, and longitudinal analysis of outcomes within episodes.Pre-employment Screenings
