This is a Temporary Provisional (TPV) position excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process. It is considered "at will" and shall serve at the discretion of the Department Head. This position will be subject to the Permanent Civil Service examination process at a later date.San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has approximately 1,700 employees and strives to be a diverse, equitable, and inclusive employer. SFO’s mission is delivering an airport experience where people and our planet come first.Under direction from the Director of Planning and Environmental Affairs and the Airport Planning Manager, the Airport Planner III will perform core airport planning functions to support short- and long-range planning on and off-Airport; support senior planners with projects and program development surrounding complex planning and environmental issues; assist in preparation of and review of planning documents; and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.How to qualify

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSPossession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university AND four (4) years (8,000 hours) of verifiable full-time-equivalent experience in an urban, city, regional and/or other related planning environment.ORPossession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university in City, Regional or Urban Planning, or a closely related field AND two (2) years (4,000 hours) of verifiable full-time-equivalent experience in an urban, city, regional and/or other related planning environment.ANDSpecial Condition:

Two (2) years of recent and verifiable experience in airport/aviation planning, including airport facilities planning, airport master planning, airfield/airspace planning, aviation demand forecasting, or environmental planning/permitting.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of federal and state laws relating to airports, FAA rules and regulations.Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data pertaining to strategic and operational airport facility impacts.Ability to work collaboratively with external agencies/stakeholders and internal airport planning staff.Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency to drive tasks supporting project completion.VERIFICATIONApplicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point during the recruitment and selection process.SELECTION PROCEDURESThe selection process will include evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements.
