Business Unit (BU) Safety Manager

to administer the safety program and serve as safety advisor for all job sites in the Business Unit, ensuring safety compliance by the project team and all employees and subcontractors working at the sites. This role will sit primarily on the job site, with occasional travel to the office for trainings, meetings, etc.

Responsibilities

Serve as a safety professional resource to project teams throughout the Business Unit and promote the successful implementation of the

safety culture.

Support business development in responding to client safety pre-qualifications, Safety Presentations, etc.

Develop and ensure distribution and understanding of Project specific safety plans for all new projects based on Safety Alignment Assessment.

Utilize SafetyNet to Audit and monitor project team implementation of the Safety Plan.

Perform at least 6 SafetyNet inspections/month with at least 100 observations each inspection.

Coach & mentor project teams in effective hazard identification and correction of issues using SafetyNet.

Analyze SafetyNet trending reports & share them with project teams.

Ensure open SafetyNet items are closed timely.

Assist teams with developing corrective action plans.

Identify & provide for relevant training within Division (i.e. IIF, topical, Blocking & Tackling, Playbooks, etc.).

Ensure that all incidents are investigated/documented/closed per Gilbane company policy.

Analyze leading and lagging indicators, advise/provide direction to BU/Division leadership on focus areas, trends and recommend corrective actions when needed.

Attend Peer Group meetings as directed by the Corporate Safety Director.

Develop professional safety relationships internally/externally and participate in industry peer meetings and/or professional organizations.

Provide development, support and mentorship for Project Safety Managers under oversight.

Assist with Gilbane internal Safety awards in Division.

Assist Division Safety Director with initiatives and requests for information.

QualificationsEXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

Associate Safety Professional.

Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Construction Management or related field.

10+ years of relevant construction safety experience.

Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Comprehensive knowledge of construction safety and health principles, techniques, methods, regulations, and interpretations.

Capable of identifying current and future potential exposures and recommending corrective action.

Proficient computer skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite.

Proficient written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient management, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Certified and authorized instructor by GU and OSHA to teach safety courses to employees and contractors.

Ability to plan, direct and manage a safety program within a Division.

Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For Arlington, VA this ranges from $130,700.00 - $179,700.00 plus benefits and retirement program.
