Position Summary

The Assistant Director role works directly with the Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and is responsible for supporting all aspects of the CETL goals and objectives. This includes, but is not limited to, coordination with staff to promote excellence in teaching methodology, assessment, and pedagogy, and to support faculty in the development of engaging, high-quality educational experiences for students. The position also requires active coordination with faculty, departments, and academic units, as necessary, to carry out duties and support CETL objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support CETL programs and direction.

Assist in the collection of aggregate faculty development survey data to support reporting and continuous improvement.

Oversee data collection on program quality, impact, and progress toward our stated goals and co-author the annual report.

Promote the dissemination of faculty’s pedagogical accomplishments and CETL programming.

Provide leadership in programming development and direction.

Work with CETL personnel to promote and support department goals and objectives.

Assist with maintaining the Center’s web presence.

Develop new web content related to teaching and learning, and faculty support.

Post event-related content and promotional materials.

Coordinate with departments and academic units as necessary to carry out duties.

Provide professional development for faculty.

Stay current by researching emerging technologies, methods, and learning theories to determine academic needs while maintaining a forward vision for CETL programming.

Design and conduct workshops and other related programming.

Lead collaborative projects with academic units.

Plan, implement, and promote department-sponsored events.

Provide teaching and learning consultations.

Promote scholarly teaching grounded in the learning sciences and emerging best practices.

Support faculty in the use of current assessment, pedagogical, and research practices to encourage academic excellence.

Assist in the design and development of courses and curriculum.

Support quality assessment development and review utilizing appropriate measures, such as statistical (psychometric) review and outcome alignment.

Participate in ongoing professional development.

Maintain currency of research-based and established best practices of teaching/learning, faculty development, and new innovations in both learning design and education.

Contribute to the field of educational development regionally and nationally.

Actively participate as a member of committees and working groups as assigned.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education – A college degree and a professional certificate or graduate degree.Experience – Two to five years (Equivalent combination of education and employment).

Preferred Qualifications

Required: a master’s degree in curriculum, instructional design, education, or related field.

Preferred: Ph.D.

Experience in teaching or faculty professional development in a higher educational environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of instructional theory, including assessment, to conduct needs assessments, write learning objectives, design instructional units, and develop instructional materials.

Able to implement pedagogical best practices in various delivery methods and learner-centered teaching strategies for an ethnically, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse student population with antiracist or culturally responsive teaching frameworks.

Knowledge of curriculum development and the ability to evaluate course design, assessments, and learning technologies to support learning outcomes.

Experience designing, implementing, and leading workshops and seminars.

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous deadlines.

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical colleagues.

Ability to work with faculty and staff in a courteous and collaborative manner.

Knowledge and experience in using a wide variety of software and hardware tools including Microsoft Office skills and web-based publishing tools.

Should be familiar with creating accessible and inclusive materials for all learners.

Some desktop design/content creation experience, some media experiences such as Camtasia, Audacity, and/or similar media suites or academic content creation tools.

Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light-weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping.

Work Environment

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.

Licenses/Certifications

None are required, although a certificate in a specialized course of study such as media development, instructional design, or similar area would be advantageous.

Salary/Pay Information

Commensurate with experience.

Anticipated Schedule

Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
