High Point University is seeking a Director in the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning. This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment with responsibilities for leading and managing all aspects of the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) operations, fostering innovation in teaching and learning across the institution, and promoting the integration of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), in education. Rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience and qualifications at the time of hire.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education

Earned doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Education, Instructional Design, or a related field is preferred

Doctorate must be from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent

Experience and Training

Minimum of 5 years of experience in faculty development, educational technology, or a related area preferred

Experience working with various faculty across multiple disciplines

Track record of successful program development and implementation

Experience with grant writing and project management preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

Demonstrated understanding of technology use and AI applications in education and their potential impact on teaching and learning

Strong leadership and management skills

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The candidate selected for this position will perform all duties directed by the Provost or Provost’s designee. The candidate will be expected to perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

1. Strategic Leadership

Develop and implement a vision for the CITL that aligns with the institution's educational mission and goals

Create and implement a strategic plan to enhance teaching and learning across the institution

Stay current with emerging trends in higher education, including AI applications in teaching and learning

Collaborate with faculty, administration, and staff to enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes

Develop and articulate a clear vision for the Center aligned with the institution's mission and goals

Identify emerging trends in higher education and technology and AI-enhanced learning, and position the Center to lead in these areas

Cultivate relationships with senior administration to ensure support for Center initiatives

Manage and mentor Center staff, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement

2. Program Development and Management

Design, implement and evaluate professional development programs for faculty and instructional staff

Create initiatives that promote the thoughtful integration of AI and other technologies in teaching practices

Develop resources and workshops on effective pedagogical strategies, including AI-enhanced learning

3. Technology Integration

Lead efforts to evaluate and implement appropriate technologies and AI-powered educational tools and platforms

Provide guidance on ethical considerations and best practices for appropriate technologies and AI use in education

Collaborate with the IT department to ensure smooth integration of appropriate technologies and AI and other technologies in learning environments

4. Research and Assessment

Conduct appropriate research and assessment on the effectiveness of various teaching methodologies, including technology based and AI-enhanced approaches

Develop assessment tools, or use existing assessment instruments, to measure the impact of CITL programs and initiatives

Disseminate research and assessment findings through publications, presentations, and workshops

5. Collaboration and Outreach

Build strong partnerships with other academic units, external organizations and peer institutions to share best practices and resources

Collaborate with deans and department chairs to address discipline-specific teaching challenges

Develop relationships with external organizations and peer institutions to share best practices and resources

Represent the institution at regional and national conferences on teaching and learning

Engage with industry partners to stay current on workforce needs and align educational practices accordingly

Represent the CITL at conferences and professional events
