About the Role:
The Senior Buyer plays a critical role by owning both strategic sourcing and purchasing of raw material/components for the Atlanta site. This position is responsible for coordinating and optimizing the purchases of raw material/components and expense items to meet customer demands, minimize inventory costs, and maximize production efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong supplier management skills, deep MRP system knowledge combined with lean practices, and a deep understanding of purchasing and sourcing principles.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing
Develop local sourcing strategies including new supplier development that supports improvements in quality, service, or cost
Negotiate and execute contracts including supply agreements, stocking agreements, and NDAs
Investigate and analyze make/buy opportunities in accordance with overall VM site strategy
Develop and execute plan for supplier cost savings opportunities
Primary contact for supplier relationship management and escalations in quality, service, or cost
Purchasing
Creates and processes purchase orders, direct and indirect, in accordance with MRP or pull signals
Manage exceptions with suppliers such as pull-ins, push-outs, and cancels of purchase orders to support service levels and optimized inventory
Manage purchasing material master data in ERP
Resolve supplier invoice discrepancies
Continuous Improvement
Work with VM Supply Chain COE team on site standardization of new or improved processes or technologies
Generate analytics and metrics that details department performance such as supplier OTD, supplier scorecard, or inventory effectiveness
Participate or lead Kaizen event teams to optimize purchasing processes at the site
Lead creation of SOPs, training, and new process development for purchasing
Train, lead, and mentor others on the team
Requirements / Skills:
10 years’ experience in Supply Chain, Purchasing, or equivalent experience and education.
3 years’ experience with MRP executing supplier purchase orders
Strong understanding of supplier cost structures
Strong negotiation skills and ability to execute contracts
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or related field preferred
APICS or ISM certification preferred
Prior lean experience preferred
