Position Description:Engineering SME IV (Team Lead):
The contractor shall have an engineering-centric background and experience as a U.S. Navy CHENG and/or a Top Snipe on Diesel/Steam (LSD/LHD/LPD/LCS) and Gas Turbine (CG/DDG/LCS) propulsion systems, including demonstrated relevant shipboard experience within the past 5 years. Note that LCS has a combination Diesel and Gas Turbine plant configuration. A SME IV shall have more than 20 years of documented hands-on experience, including a minimum of three (3) at-sea tours as a Main Propulsion Assistant or other Principal Assistant. It is highly desirable to have experience as a squadron or Strike Group N4. In lieu of the experience above, the CHENG may be a graduate of the Surface Warfare Officer School Prospective Engineering Officer (PEO) and Advanced Engineering courses of instruction, along with a minimum of three (3) at-sea tours. Courses shall include ship class specific Propulsion, Electrical, and Auxiliaries systems, along with Engineering Operating Procedures (EOP) and Engineering Operating Casualty Control (EOCC) procedures. A former Top Snipe shall have completed the NEC bearing course, been designated by a Commanding Officer, graduated from appropriate A and C schools, and served in various capacities within a ship’s engineering department, completing a minimum of three tours. These qualifications will be accepted as CHENG-like qualifications.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum of 20 years of experience. Experience as a Chief Engineer on Gas Turbine (CG/DDG) propulsion systems or Diesel (LSD/LPD) propulsion systems, including multiple sea tours as a Main Propulsion Assistant and Engineering Department Division Officer.
Education/Certification Requirements:Minimum of 20 years of experience. Experience as a Chief Engineer on Gas Turbine (CG/DDG) propulsion systems or Diesel (LSD/LPD) propulsion systems, including multiple sea tours as a Main Propulsion Assistant and Engineering Department Division Officer.Recent experience (within the last 5 years) conducting technical briefs at all levels of shipboard.Must be physically able to climb up and/or down a pilot’s ladder to board a naval vessel underway at sea and stay onboard a U.S. Naval Vessel for several underway days.
