The Position

The City of Beaverton is hiring an experienced Plans Examiner (classification: ) to join the Building Division.

The Plans Examiner reviews construction plans for commercial, industrial, multi-family, and residential buildings for compliance with all codes, regulations, rules, laws, and ordinances, and approves or deny plans. This position also works with developers and contractors, attending predesign and plan review meetings.

The Plans Examiner 2 performs review of buildings requiring State of Oregon A-level Plans Examiner, A-level Mechanical Inspector, Residential Plans Examiner, and Fire and Life Safety Plans Examiner certifications.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, Management 3 (M3) position. There is one vacancy.

Perform plan reviews on commercial, industrial, multi-family and residential buildings, for compliance with city ordinances, and state building, mechanical and fire codes and applicable laws, rules and regulations according to established time deadlines. Write plan review reports.Approve or deny plans for issuance. Identify plan deficiencies and notify applicants of required alterations. Work with applicants to resolve problems. Determine the value of buildings for permit fees and approve building permits.Participate in pre-development and facility review meetings addressing code issues or plan deficiencies.Provide technical assistance to the public and construction representatives on code questions plan review and processes. Assist applicants in completing the building permit process.Maintain and file applications, documentation and records. Enter plans review information into computer system. Initiate plan check letters as required.Conduct field inspections as directed.Assist permit technicians on permit application processing.Coordinate with other divisions and governmental agencies related to commercial, industrial and multi-family building projects.Provide code information and answer code questions by phone and at the building counter as requested by the general public, contractors, and design professionals.Participate in division operational processes including procedure development and implementation.Additional duties are outlined in the Plans Examiner 2 class specification.Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

Associate's degree in Building Inspection Technology or a related field; andFour years' progressively responsible experience in plans examination; orAn equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.Licensing and special requirementsValid driver's license and ability to meet the city's driving standards.State of Oregon A-level Plans Examiner or ICC* Building Plans Examiner certificationState of Oregon Fire Life Safety Plans Examiner or ICC* Fire Plans Examiner certificationState of Oregon Residential Plans Examiner or ICC* Residential Building inspector certificationState of Oregon A-level Mechanical Inspector or ICC* Commercial Mechanical Inspector certificationState of Oregon Inspector certification.Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check.*International Code Council (ICC) certification is a nationally recognized certification adopted in the State of Oregon OAR's as an approved equivalent certification. All ICC certified individuals require an Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) in addition to their ICC certifications to be considered for employment in the State of Oregon.

Wage range : $37.49 - $50.24 hourlyStarting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
