Department: Valor Health Specialty Services Clinic
Supervisor: Office Manager or Department Supervisor (Lead Practice RN)Position Summary:
This position prepares and assists physician/provider in the examination and treatment of patients in the medical office and must be available to assist and follow the provider's orders as directed or as documented in EHR.Principal Functions and Responsibilities:Obtain patients basic vital sign and data collection and entry into EHR. If appropriate, verify the patient has completed a Review of Systems questionnaire (ROS). Notify provider if VS are abnormalVerify patient with minimal two identifiers such as their name and date of birth.Review patient's medical record as appropriate for condition or anticipated treatment (such as for any prior colonoscopy, history of infectious disease, diabetes and/or anticoagulation use). - Ideally this would be done the day prior to the visit while scrubbing charts for information that is relevant to Chief Complaint.Obtain and record patient's chief complaint, make observations, listen to and answer patient(s) questions in a timely and reasonable fashion per scope of practice and clinic workflow.Verify patients' current pharmacy, review current medication and patient allergies in EHR.Review and record patient tobacco, E-cigarette, ETOH or drug use in EHR.Assist physicians and providers with examinations and treatments as necessary.Set up instruments and supplies needed for procedures to be done, i.e., biopsies, suture wounds, cast fractures, wound care and/or apply wound vac as needed or directed.Ensure that proper consents are signed by both provider and patient prior to performing any invasive procedure such as injections, biopsies, sutures or other procedures not defined or explained by implied consent related to chief complaint.LPN or MA may draw up medications per provider's orders when needed prior to treatment such as lidocaine for wound care or simple procedure under the supervision of MD, PA, NP or RN and label with name, date and time.Perform any standing orders predetermined by the provider in EHR, including but not limited to point of care testing.Review Pre-op preparation instructions with patient as appropriate per scope of practice when required.Assist with patient prescription refills as needed or required per scope of practice.Call patients with reports results after provider review such as X-ray, MRI or other diagnostic results. (Per provider preference or facility protocol).Complete insurance pre-authorizations for referrals and prescribed medicines as appropriate (dependent on urgency and facility protocol).Keep exam rooms clean and organized. Keep supplies, equipment and instruments in place and ready for use. Change pillowcases and exam table paper after patient use.In coordination with the Clinic Manager, order all medical supplies and maintain supply inventory.Work with DME representatives to keep DME stock current and DME closet organized.Remain at clinic and be available for providers until all patients have been cared for. Remain in the building until the patient you roomed has check-out of the room. Check with coworkers and be mindful of clinic flow before taking breaks or leaving for the day.Manage and Transport of contaminated instruments to main campus at end of day for sterilization.Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Education:
High School diploma or equivalent plus state required medical credentials.
Preferred Minimum Experience and Skills:
2 years clinical experience in a skilled nursing facility, clinic or hospital setting with emphasis on universal precautions, wound care and infection prevention.
Required:
Current Certification / Registration CMA, RMA or Current Idaho LPN License
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing and working at a computer keyboard, walking, lifting, reaching, bending, hand eye coordination, and good oral communication. May be required to assist patients in and out of vehicles, on/off exam chairs or tables and in or out of wheelchairs.
Working Conditions:
Medical Clinic environment.
Perform wound care and nail debridement under direction of physician in a variety of settings to include clinic and hospital departments as needed.
