Position Description

Provide oversight of department clinical, including but not limited to mobile unit, activities, coordinate services provided to patients, and manage patient activities.Job Duties and Responsibilities

Provide public health nursing services, including immunizations and health screenings, in the community.Handles private and confidential information according to established laws and guidelines (i.e. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).Assist in solving daily problems related to clinical operations, and patient and parent concerns.Promote safety and maintenance of medical equipment.Account for and monitor special bio-hazardous materials, ensuring a safe environment in the mobile unit.Use information systems as indicated (REDCap, MEDSS, MIIC, MnTRac, Sharepoint, etc.) to report activities to the Minnesota Health Department and, when required, state and federal agencies.Participate in policy and procedure reviews aimed at improving services.Participate in research efforts in conjunction with other staff from the Department of Health to analyze health care practices to ensure high quality service is being provided and to help identify best practices.Participate in documentation and evaluation.Provides public health nursing services to individuals and families (i.e. immunizations, infectious and non-infectious disease case management/follow-up, and referral and connection to needed services (i.e. addiction treatment, housing, etc.)Provide orientation and training to new staff so that they are able to function independently in the clinical setting.Monitor the vaccine stock and provide reports so that the inventory is kept at appropriate levels.Performs public health emergency response functions as trained and assigned within the department's emergency response plan.Administers vaccines and medications for emergency plans as needed.Work with patients and community informing them of public health issues.Act as a health information resource by providing education, information, support, and guidance to client/family/community; responds to inquiries about public health services and makes appropriate referrals and links to community resources.Provide treatment based on assessment per protocol or examiners orders (MHD Medical Director).Collaborate with other public health professionals in developing and implementing population-based community-assessments and public health messaging.Treat minor injuries or illness.Dispense and administer medication and provide appropriate advice and education regarding the medication.Dispense birth control methods.Refer patients with serious problems to outside providers.WORKING CONDITIONS : Works flexible hours, including evening and weekend hours to attend meetings/events to meet client needs.Hybrid working conditions.

MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS :Bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent.Valid driver's license, car insurance, and dependable car OR access to reliable transportation required to perform job duties.

MINUMUM EXPERIENCE :Two years of recent public health experience (i.e. within the past three years) or other nursing work experience.EQUIVALENCY :An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of MinnesotaCertification (may be pending) as a Public Health Nurse in the State of Minnesota.Selection ProcessThe selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

Eligible List Statement
