Job Type Full-timeDescriptionPOSITION TITLE: Dental AssistantRESPONSIBLE TO: Practice ManagerFLSA STATUS: Non - ExemptPurpose of this Position: Responsible for sterilization, equipment maintenance, and inventory control of dental instruments and supplies. To assist Dentist in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients of the center. Report to Dental Manager and Staff Dentist.RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:Certification of completion from a Dental Assisting Program or 2 years of dental assisting experience. Oregon Certificate of Radiological Proficiency is required to work in Oregon, required to obtain within 12 months of taking the position if an Idaho employee.Oregon Certificate of Expanded Functions (EFDA) preferred, not required to start but must be completed within 12 months of taking position.Oregon Certificate of Additional Expanded Functions (Sealants) preferred, not required to start but must be completed within 12 months of taking position.BLS certified in basic life support.Be available for evening and weekend hours if/when requested.RESPONSIBILITIES:Greet and seat patients, assist with any forms that need to be filled out by the patient.Assist in reviewing the medical history, by documenting for the dentist or hygienist pertinent information that should be brought to their attention.Take and record patient's blood pressure when appropriate.Find out the patient's chief complaint.Expose and develop radiographs after the appropriate orders have been given.Assist the Dentist or Hygienist with initial and periodic exams and record the findings as instructed by the Dentist or Hygienist.Assist the Dentist and Hygienist at chair-side procedures.Dismiss the patient to the Receptionist with any specific orders documented and brought to the attention of the Receptionist prior to the patient's departure.Maintain the operatories as outlined in the VFHC Dental Handbook.Maintain the operatory inventory.Order and assist in monitoring clinical supplies.Sterilize and package instruments.Maintain equipment or assist in maintenance.Strictly follow VFHC Policies and Procedures Manual and Handbook.Be sensitive to the needs of the Dentist and Hygienist at all times.Hold all patient information in the strictest of confidence.Hold all VFHC Dental and Medical information in the strictest confidence.Uphold all Oregon and Idaho state guidelines regarding dental assistingAssist with meeting quality measures by completing tasks related to VFHC initiatives.Performs other duties as assigned.Physical Requirements:Possess the appropriate manual dexterity to successfully perform the duties described above.Possess normal color acuity.Must be able to lift 25 lbs.Continuous sitting, standing, walking.Correctable vision and hearing.The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. Environmental Conditions: The VFHC Dental Clinic work environment is much like that of a typical dental office where the risk of exposure to strong bright light, a high decibel level, ionizing radiation, and blood borne pathogens can and do exist.Salary Description Starting $17.50 DOE
