Description

Summary:

The Weld Inspector reports to the Weld Manager and is responsible for inspecting and testing welded joints of work in progress and completed units for defects, correct dimensions, strength, weld penetration and conformance. The Weld Inspector is responsible for performing welding duties as well.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Inspect and test welded joints of work in progress and of completed units for visible defects, correct dimensions, joint strength, bead formation, weld penetration and conformance with layouts, blueprints, and other work order specifications according to any applicable codes or company policies.Apply knowledge of welding principles and metallurgical properties: examine joint to detect flaws, such as cracks, cold weld, spatter, undercuts using a flashlight or magnifying glass. This will include any manual welding performed by an employee or robotic welding.Responsible for inspecting and verifying that the cleaning, prepping, and paint procedures are followed, and all quality is verified.Perform stress tests on joints using stress testing equipment if applicable or prepares sample for stress testing and reviews results.Verifies alignment and dimensions of product and setup machines and fixtures used for work in progress. And completes a first article of inspection per company policies.Observes techniques and performance of welders in the weld shop.Mark defective pieces and recommends scrapping or methods of reworking.Record inspection data and pass along to the Weld Shop Manager.Perform tests in accordance with our weld certification program and sends weld tests off for certification.Perform duties in accordance with our weld certification program and assists manager in coordinating those efforts.May use a variety of power and hand tools to grind or chip off excess slag or spatter.Weld inspector must maintain welding certifications in accordance with our welding certification program: AWS D1.1, CWB S class, AWS-TKY.Weld Inspectors must always keep their AWS certified weld inspector certifications current according to AWS standards and their CWB certified weld supervisor certification for W47.1.Perform work assigned by Weld Manager that will include the efficient flow of materials in and out of the work cells.Responsible for collaborating with the Weld Manager in a manner that will reach goals of quality, volume, and efficiency.Understand and be proficient at using our E10 computer software and must follow company policies as they pertain to parts once they are inspected and completed.This position requires some flexibility as workload demands. It may require you to help the team out in other areas such as tacking, welding, painting, material handling, pipe rolling, or any other tasks as assigned by the Weld Shop Manager.Responsible along with Weld Manager for the overall safety of the department. Ensure everyone is following safety rules, policies and procedures and ensure employees are not putting themselves in harms way.Must document and notify the Weld Shop Manager of defects as it pertains to any quality issues in the Weld Shop. Documentation should be an email describing the defect, the repair procedure, and the employee name/number. Documentation should include pictures.Ability to set up and operate welding equipment according to our CWB recommended parameters.Notify Weld Shop Manager and/or Weld Shop Maintenance personnel of any maintenance or safety issues with equipment.Notify the Weld Shop Manager, CAD department or any other departments of any changes or updates that need to be made to blueprints. Weld Shop Manager needs to be included when other departments are notified of a quality concern, design change or any questions concerning issues that could affect quality or production.Report any issues to the Weld Manager immediately for resolution.Be a team player and a role model. Contribute to a positive atmosphere of cooperation, productivity, team spirit and be a champion of the strategic plan program.Assist with training employees as directed by management. Be a mentor.Keep workspace clean and organized and assist other employees with this initiative as well.Senior Management or Weld Manager has the discretion to change weld inspectors working hours depending on business changes or needs and workflow.Any other duties as assigned by the Weld Shop Manager, Team Leads or any other member of management.Qualifications

Qualifications:

Knowledge of the welding processes including our welding certification process.Ability to handle the position under time constraints and stress.Computer experience required.

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Weld inspector must maintain welding certifications in accordance with our welding certification program: AWS D1.1, CWB S class, AWS-TKY. Weld Inspectors must always keep their AWS certified weld inspector certifications current according to AWS standards and their CWB certified weld supervisor certification for W47.1.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, policies and procedures and work orders specifications and code books as it pertains to certifications.

Mathematical Skills:

Basic math skills such addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and any other calculations as it pertains to a certified weld inspector.
