Synergistic opportunities for our faculty and students abound and are virtually limitless in the nation’s capital and surrounding areas.Position Summary/Purpose of Position:Under the supervision of the Manager, Administration, incumbent independently manages the Facilities Management Pest Control Program in the academic and administrative buildings and surrounding grounds.Minimum Qualifications:Education:High School Diploma or GED.Experience:Five years performing a pest control program for an interior or exterior environment.Other:Certification as a Pest Control Applicator.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Thorough knowledge of pest taxonomy and pest biology; of pesticide selection and use; of methods and techniques of pest management.General knowledge of applicable safety rules and regulations related to pest control.Skill in calculating percentages to correctly dilute pesticides; in using appropriate pest control equipment; in communicating orally and in writing.Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment; to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on equipment and machinery; to work from ladders, scaffolding, and heights up to 35 feet; to work in hazardous or irritating environments; confined spaces, and adverse weather and temperature conditions.Preferences:Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to effectively apply integrated pest management principles to the solution of practical problems.Able to identify and diagnose pest management problems, to deal tactfully with the public, to make routine studies and investigations, and to collect, organize, store and present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form.Able to use a computer to enter data and record keeping information, and to communicate by email.Additional Certifications:Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class C driver’s license (or equivalent) with fewer than 6 points. Must be a certified Maryland Pesticide Applicator or must obtain certification within 6 months of employment.Job Risks:Must be able to work in adverse weather and temperature extremes and be free from debilitating pollen allergies and the like. The employee must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position including the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and on occasion up to 100 pounds; stand and walk continuously; lift, stoop, and/or bend for extended periods of time; wear and work with the use of personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, etc.).Position is Essential and is subject to 24 hour day/7 day week span of operation.Incumbent must be able to work long hours in adverse conditions.Must also be acutely aware of all toxic chemicals and be able to work all hours of the day and night.Posting Date:
