Job Title : Business Development Manager

Reports to : Chief Operating Officer

FLSA Status : Exempt

Pay : Competitive salary, determined by experience, with bonus opportunities based on performance

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities in the construction industry. This role requires someone who can build relationships with key stakeholders, negotiate contracts, and strategically position the company to win bids and grow revenue. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the construction market, excellent communication skills, and a strong track record in business development or sales within the industry.

The Take Charge Business Development Manager:

Develops, Plans, and Implements the Company's Market Development Program:

Responsible for continued sustainability and growth in the market, including markets previously not serviced.

Ensures target client base fully understands the company’s desires and capabilities.

Facilitates positive interaction between the company’s team, executives, estimators, project managers, and the clients’ teams.

Establishes, plans, and sets objectives and goals that support overall business strategy/results; anticipating and adjusting for problems/roadblocks.

Works closely with both the Executive and Project Management teams, keeping them abreast of opportunities and threats.

Expands and improves CRM and related sales support systems.

Maintains CRM contact databases with contact information, relevant “deal” information, and all market intelligence.

Identifies market opportunities and coordinates with Marketing to create campaigns to win the work.

Sources and qualifies opportunities for business development projects at the initial stages with relevant market knowledge.

Actively participates in the community through leadership positions on advisory boards, trade associations, and networking groups.

Plans and Executes Business Development Opportunities:

Works with the COO in support of the short and long-term revenue/margin requirements per the annual business development plan and strategy.

Identifies and pursues target projects and customers within and beyond the current client base.

Obtains supporting data including competitive intelligence on market opportunities and new projects.

Builds strategic relationships with design, engineering, and trade partners to find and acquire new work.

Ensures the company is well positioned in a dynamic market, staying informed of market changes and emerging trends.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Previous applicable experience working in a commercial construction negotiation environment with excellent construction management, negotiation, and influencing skills.

Comprehensive knowledge of the construction industry and its dynamics; ability to stay current with changing technologies, regulations, and trends, including building and maintaining strong relationships with industry leaders.

Maintain a current knowledge of the business environment, competitors, customers, and market trends, leveraging insights to benefit the business.

Ability to develop and execute annual business plans aligned with company goals. Identify market opportunities and coordinate with Marketing to create collateral to win the work.

Ability to build strategic relationships with design, engineering, and trade partners to acquire new work.

Inspire staff at all levels to recognize, locate, and capitalize on business development opportunities.

Education and/or Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field (preferred).

Experience: 5+ years of experience with a large site preparation, demolition, and utility contractor, in roles such as Business Development, Senior Project Manager, Estimator, Department Head, or Director of Operations.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

This position typically involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Employees are frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hand dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other business equipment. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The work environment is a typical business office setting, where noise levels are generally quiet to moderate, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions is infrequent.
