Job Summary

The Senior Project Manager at the Constructive Disagreement Project (CDP) oversees the management and successful execution of program and research activities led by Professor Julia Minson. This position provides support and leadership on financial administration, project management, grant proposals, policy outreach, research dissemination, and external relationship management for a research portfolio focused on identifying barriers to and building skills for constructive disagreement, particularly in educational, healthcare, and media organizations.

The position offers an opportunity to shape how the CDP engages with different stakeholders, as well as identify and incubate new research and policy engagement activities and other collaborations that contribute towards the goals of the Project and the research portfolio. The Senior Project Manager will work with counterparts across Harvard University and with collaborating organizations to develop and implement research management and policy engagement strategies.

The successful candidate should be well organized, able to prioritize, have a strong attention to detail, and manage multiple assignments and projects simultaneously. This position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with faculty, staff, students, and research collaborators. Experience in private sector and staff management will be evaluated favorably, as will previous experience in a research environment.

Position Description

Manage the Project’s research program and outreach activities, including oversight of active collaborations, coordinating resources, establishing necessary DUAs, ensuring timely submission of project deliverables, and supporting post-award grant management.

Support the growth of the Project at the Shorenstein Center, including strategic planning, funding, staffing, and outreach to the broader Shorenstein faculty network as needed.

Identify and incubate new funding opportunities and manage the grant submission process to fund the above activities, including drafting, editing, and proofreading proposal narratives and reports, in collaboration with Shorenstein grants management staff, establishing budgets, presenting to stakeholders and compiling other proposal components in collaboration with other units or institutions for completion of requirements for sponsored and non-sponsored research.

Provide management oversight to research staff.

Manage hiring and onboarding processes for new research staff whose work falls within the Project’s portfolio.

Work closely with Shorenstein finance and grants management staff to provide sound financial management and oversight of project accounts and budgets, including coordination with other units at Harvard or externally, as needed. Coordinate with IRB to develop, submit and amend IRB protocols.

Coordinate with Shorenstein Grants Manager to develop, submit and amend fully executed DUAs.

Oversee the use of systems for secure data management and ethical use of human subjects in large research studies.

Develop research and policy written outputs (e.g., edit, develop and proofread presentations, reports, policy briefs, communication pieces, and research papers).

Lead website design and maintenance including as related to knowledge dissemination activities.

Contribute to the Project’s success through other responsibilities as required.

Basic Qualifications

Master’s degree

5+ years of related professional project management experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Experience in private sector and staff management will be evaluated favorably, as will previous experience in a research environment.

Up to date knowledge of research on and practice of conflict management and negotiations, curriculum, and training design.

A high level of expertise in project management and operations.

Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Computer expertise Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Basic visual design skills (PowerPoint, Canva, website design).

Strong ability to integrate research insights in conflict management and negotiations into coherent and effective training experiences.

Additional Information

This position is a fully benefits-eligible term appointment ending one year from date of hire, with possibility of renewal.

This is a hybrid position based on our campus in Cambridge, MA. As a campus-based institution, we place a high value on the in-person experience, cross-team collaboration, and strong community building in order to create a vibrant campus for our students, faculty, staff, and research fellows. The position is required to work in-person on campus a minimum of three days per week during the academic year. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager. Salary Range: $76,400 - $130,000. Note: Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.
