After successfully completing a one-year training program, trainees are eligible for promotion to the target class of Transportation Engineer 1 (Engineering) or Transportation Engineer 1 (Construction Engineering).SALARY/PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY:Transportation Engineer Trainee: $72,629/annuallyAfter successful completion of a one (1) year training program, you will be promoted to Transportation Engineer 1 (Construction Engineering): $81,047-$99,673/annuallyAfter successful completion of two (2) years as a Transportation Engineer 1 (Construction Engineering), you will be promoted to Transportation Engineer 2 (Construction Engineering): $91,244-$117,842/annuallyAPPLICATION DETAILS:Please list your Driver's license number, expiration date, and issuing State, Engineer in Training license number (if applicable) and any other job-relevant licenses or certifications you hold, in the Licenses and Professional Certifications section of your application.OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:Will possess general knowledge of land surveying and transportationExperience with construction engineering theories, principles, and methodsSkill in use of computer aided design software (MicroStation preferred) and other computer applications including Word and ExcelWill possess strong oral and written communication skillsWill possess organizational and interpersonal skillsPossess the ability to read and analyze construction plans and estimatesOUR MISSION:At DOT, our mission is to provide a safe and efficient intermodal transportation network that improves the quality of life and promotes economic vitality for the State and the region.SELECTION PLAN:These positions will be filled in accordance with contractual language, reemployment, SEBAC, transfer, promotion and merit employment rules. Applications to this recruitment will be used to meet collective bargaining requirements.PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK):In the Department of Transportation and the Connecticut Airport Authority this class is accountable for receiving training in introductory professional engineering work for the development of technical and professional transportation engineering and transportation construction engineering skills and knowledge in order to qualify for advancement in the field of transportation engineering.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE:Possession of a Bachelor's degree.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Possession of a land survey or civil engineering degree or license (LS or LSIT), or Level III Survey Technician Certification from the National Society of Professional Surveyors.Experience with CADD, preferably Bentley MicroStation.Experience with land surveying practices and principles.Experience performing complex mathematical calculations.Experience working as part of a team.Experience with providing written and verbal communication to others.Experience with efficiently multi-tasking.Experience interpreting survey and construction plans.Experience directing noting of topographic details.Experience preparing, revising, and editing complex planimetric and topographic mapping.Experience with Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) including Real Time Kinematic (RTK) and other Static/Real Time Networks.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.WORKING CONDITIONS:Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some risk of injury or physical harm from highway, construction site, or on-site environments and a moderate degree of discomfort from year-round weather conditions.CONCLUSION:AN AFFIRMATIVE ACTION/EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER.
