Director of Student ServicesWinchester Public Schools is seeking an experienced person to lead the Department of Student Services.

Position Purpose:The Director of Student Services is responsible for the system-wide operations of all student services-related programming within the district. The individual will oversee special education, speech/language, occupational and physical therapy, school psychology, Medicaid billing, financials for the department, student record keeping, etc. Additionally, this person will direct all special education services at The Gilbert School, out-of-district placements, programmatic placements, in-district programming, etc. The Director will be responsible for supervising and evaluating all student services staff.

Qualifications:

Connecticut Certification Required: 092 - Intermediate Administration or Supervisor and 165 - Special Education, Comprehensive, Grades K-12 or appropriate license.

Minimum of five years’ experience.

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Essential Responsibilities:

Direct knowledge and understanding of the CTSEDS platform.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of special education law and mandates.

Works and communicates effectively with staff, parents, and students from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Maintains confidentiality of all information pertaining to students, staff, and district information.

Management of short/long-term financial projects related to student services.

Actively seeks grants to expand programming and increase funding opportunities. Prepares and manages all federal and state entitlement grants pertaining to special education.

Collects and analyses all data related to the department and prepares/implements improvement strategies.

Facilitates all professional development (certified and non-certified) and meetings related to special education.

Ability to evaluate Individualized Education Plans and provide detailed feedback.

Ensures the compliance of the special education service delivery process for the development of IEPs, annual reviews, and third-year re-evaluations as required by state and federal regulations.

Ensures the district is in compliance with all state and federal regulations.

Represents the district in mediation, administrative hearings, and court proceedings relating to students in need of or receiving special education services.

Preparations of all state, federal, and local reports as required.

Additional tasks as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools at their discretion.

Working Conditions:

Private Contract

12-month position

Salary - $150,000 to $165,000 (based on experience)

15 illness days, 5 personal days, and 20 vacation days.

Insurance aligned with the Administrators’ Contract

Annuity of $10,000

Reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools

Cabinet-level position

Requirements:

Must pass federal and local background checks

Must complete all pre-employment requirements before the appointment date

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
