Assistant Director – Purchased Services and Laboratory

leads all Supply Chain activities related to Purchased Services and Laboratory categories serving a total of 392 facilities, including: Acute Care, BH (Behavioral Health), IPMs (Independent Physician Management), Alt (Alternate) Sites and Surgery Centers. Provides oversight of sourcing and standardization initiatives to improve patient care and outcomes while reducing total costs. Provides appropriate support to the Laboratory Directors and Supply Chain Directors, as required and/or requested. Assesses key “new technologies” and risk-reward impact upon UHS Operations and upon UHS as an entity. Directs, mentors, and coaches team members.Key Responsibilities include:Maintains operational responsibility for supervision, performance evaluations and direction of the team. Participates in the development of staff responsible for Purchased Services and Laboratory initiatives. Participates in the development of annual sourcing calendar to guide staff regarding priorities and to drive expense reduction.Leads the identification and execution of standardization and utilization for clinical products and services. Applies past clinical experience and knowledge to these initiatives. Participates in review, approval and implementation of new products and technology presented by hospital clinicians. Assists Corporate Clinical Leaders with providing product usage, approved contracted vendors and cost information as needed for their specific product-related initiatives. Manages the contract review process to validate the appropriate terms, conditions, pricing, vendors and approvals.Leads identified sourcing opportunities pertaining to clinical products and services with support from Corporate Contracting team and GPO support staff. This includes strategy development, vendor communication, negotiation, benchmarking proposed pricing, and execution of contract. Acts as a liaison between hospital departments and Corporate Contracting as hospitals work on facility-based agreements. Participates in developing policies and procedures for corporate and local contracting.Monitors and assists facility Supply Chain and Clinical Leaders with corporate-wide product conversions. This includes objectives and time frames for conversion, cross-reference data, education tools, and supporting financial information. Performs cost analysis, tracks conversion timeline and savings progress. Develops and administers project management plan for initiatives.Monitors compliance with contract commitments. Develops tools to track and monitor appropriate utilization, develops key performance indicators (KPI). Helps to ensure consistent auditing and feedback for appropriate utilization control and expense reduction. Performs analysis of contract utilization and formulates and implements recommendations for adoption or improvement. Performs Category Management functions including convening quarterly business reviews with key suppliers and distributors. Reviews and ensures the appropriate financial metrics are monitored and that proper controls are in place to maximize contract savings.Represents UHS on Group Purchasing Organization Steering Committees.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:Bachelor’s degree required plus 8-10 years of experience.Experience in Purchased Services and Laboratory areas.Detailed clinical and operations management experience required.Broad knowledge of state of the art sourcing and contracting initiatives.Ability to build strong working relationships and mentor direct reports.Strong leadership presence to evaluate business opportunities, major contracts, and relationships.Strong group dynamic skills to lead facility conversion teams to accomplishment established goals.Projects a positive attitude and team orientation. Demonstrates professionalism and a sense of personal responsibility. Needs to be efficient; effective in recovery skills; exhibit a strong work ethic and practice service excellence.Demonstrated written and oral communication and analytical skills. Makes communication more effective.Computer skills with proficiency in MS Excel and Word.Six Sigma credentials preferred.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Travel Requirements:
