Quality Assurance Manager

Reports To : Plant Manager with dotted line to Corporate Quality Manager

Position Location:

Winston Salem, North Carolina

Direct Reports:

1 Quality Engineer, 1 Sr. Quality Specialist, 1 QA Clerk, 11 lab technicians

Position Summary : The QA Manager will be based in the Winston Salem, NC area and will travel to customers and vendors as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee all aspects of company's QA departmentWill assist the Quality Specialist in the management of a QA clerk and a team of lab techniciansResponsible for all aspects of document control including the creation and revision of documentation,processes, and standardsMaintain an internal audit systemManage customer audits, supplier audits, and participate in customer/supplier visitsResponsible for overall supplier qualityApprove and maintain visual inspection standards, physical testing specifications, and customer specific requirementsManage certification and calibration of ASTM testing equipment for the plantMonitor quality reporting data, returns/allowances as a percentage of sales, and customer scorecard ratingsAssist the Plant Manager in maintaining Material Review Board (MRB) process to properly disposition all materialManage Certificate of Analysis (COA) process for incoming raw materials and finished goodsAssist process engineers with FMEA and Control Plan maintenanceRespond to customer concerns including authorization of credit requests or returnsAssist in root cause analysis and develop corrective action strategies for internal and customer related quality issuesLead and support all efforts to maintain our IATF 16949 and ISO/IEC 17025 certificationsAssist the Corporate Quality Manager in acquiring the AS9100 certificationRequirements

Education Requirements:

4-year degree, preferably in a technical area, e.g. engineering

Work Experience:

5+ yearsTeam management/supervisionPrefer experience with Minitab or similar statistical analysis software package, and Lean Six Sigma manufacturing methodologyPrefer experience with a Quality Management System, especially ISO/IEC 17025, IATF16949, and/or AS9100.

Travel Requirements:

Occasional visits to suppliers, customers, and training courses as needed.

Physical Requirements:

Spends some time working in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing setting; must be able to walk up and down stairs and on concrete floors; be comfortable around loud equipment and chemical smells; wear PPE (safety glasses, ear protection where required); have good vision and color vision; use of hands for computer tasks; lift 50lbs occasionally (e.g. boxes of documents).
