I. Position Summary
The Chief Human Resources Officer, reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Operations (VPFO), oversees and manages all human resources functions for the university including employee relations, compensation, benefits, retirement, training, budgeting, hiring as well as university and legal policies and procedures.
II. Position Responsibilities
Contributes to the development and implementation of the strategic plans, initiatives, and visions of the university.
Oversees the university’s recruiting and hiring process, including serving as a consultant to search committees, managers, and search agencies.
Responsible for the ongoing review, development and communication of employee policies, procedures, required employee trainings and government mandates associated with employment.
Oversees the entry, orientation and on-boarding of new university employees.
Coordinates the development and programming of the various HR databases and subsequent HR portals.
Leads and establishes benchmarks and parameters regarding compensation, employment actions, and business processes.
Administers benefit insurance programs and contracts, managing the relationship and negotiation of contracts with the benefit brokers and insurance providers.
Works closely with management and legal counsel regarding severance, EEOC claims, employment audits, etc. to reduce university legal liability and exposure.
Investigates complaints regarding university or government concerns and/or violations.
Provides guidance and resources to supervisors in addressing performance or behavior related personnel issues and disciplinary actions and procedures.
Administers and coordinates compensation planning for annual budget development.
Reviews faculty covenants for compensation and benefit compliance.
Facilitates and tracks the Performance Management Program.
Serves as Chair of the Fiduciary and Benefit Committee; as well as a consultant for various Task Force groups and ad hoc committees.
Ensures that the University operates in compliance with applicable employment laws.
Oversees and maintains departmental budget.
Ensures a culture within the department that lends itself to employee retention.
Reviews and identifies areas of need and facilitates implementation of corrective action where necessary across various departments.
Serves as the University’s Affirmative Action Officer and identifies and addresses matters that emerge in the context of and relating to Affirmative Action.
Embodies values of caring and compassion, justice and integrity, competence and affirmation.
Seeks to treat each member of the campus community with fairness, dignity and respect, seeking a spirit of unity and harmony as we join together to achieve our common mission.
Demonstrates responsiveness to the VPFO and performs any other duties as assigned.
III. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The ability to articulate and support the evangelical Christian mission of the university, an MBA or Master’s Degree in higher education administration, human resources or related field, and experience in higher education are required. A proven ability to communicate effectively, both in written and oral form, to a broad constituency; customer service orientation; and computer literacy are essential. A working knowledge of higher education administration, employment law, employee relations and human resources management is preferred.
