Starbird Chicken (“Starbird) is a California-based quick service restaurant chain specializing in high-quality chicken dishes. Driven by our outstanding unit-level economics, we have partnered with exceptional private equity investors to grow our base of company-owned stores, and we have launched our franchise program to further accelerate growth.
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer to join our executive team and lead our financial operations as we expand our quick service restaurant chain through growth of company-owned and franchised locations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in multi-unit finance, franchising, and scaling operations. The ideal CFO candidate is willing to be hands-on with a smaller venture backed company’s embarking on rapid growth.
Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership and Strategy
Develop and execute the company's financial strategy to support our aggressive growth plans
Ensure company has the needed accounting and finance team and processes in place
Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and analysis, treasury, and tax.
Manage company contracts, construction expense and investment tracking, lease negotiations and administration
Provide strategic financial input to senior management and the board of directors
Lead capital raising efforts and manage relationships with investors and financial institutions
Franchising and Growth Management
Develop financial models and projections for franchise expansion
Oversee due diligence processes for new franchisees
Create and implement financial systems to support franchisee operations and reporting
Analyze potential markets for company-owned expansion opportunities
Develop and maintain new store prototype models to aid in the selection and approval of potential new sites
Lead company budgeting and forecasting process
Operational Finance
Optimize cash flow management across corporate and franchised locations
Implement cost control measures and improve operational efficiency
Manage risk and insurance programs
Oversee internal controls and compliance with financial regulations
Reporting and Analytics
Develop comprehensive financial reporting systems for management and franchisees
Provide data-driven insights to guide business decisions and strategy
Oversee the preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, and forecasts
Oversee company financial statement audit and tax filings
Requirements:Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA a plus
CPA certification highly desirable
10+ years of progressive financial management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
Experience in the restaurant industry, preferably in quick service or fast casual concepts
Strong understanding of franchising models and multi-unit operations
Proven track record of scaling financial operations in high-growth environments
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong leadership, team building, and communication abilities
