Reporting to the Vice President and Chief of Staff, the Executive Associate will primarily support institutional communication, assist the President and CEO in managing speaking engagements, creatively telling stories and sharing experiences that engage, inspire, and strengthen internal and external audiences’ confidence in Morehouse School of Medicine ensuring consistent messaging for Morehouse School of Medicine initiatives, goals, and objectives. This position will help ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness within the Office of the President and CEO and will serve as a trusted adviser to institutional leadership, supporting the Executive Leadership Team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Creates and prepares Presidential communications including speech writing, presentations, newsletter content, town hall messaging, board reports, and agenda development as well as the preparation of material that presents general medical, life sciences, and academic information.

Leads efforts with the President serving as a thought leader in the health, clinical, and research space. This role is pivotal to the management and coordination of speaking engagements and will collaborate with the Marketing and Communication team on executive communication to ensure the OPC brand and messaging are aligned with the institution.

Performs a variety of administrative duties with wide latitude for exercising discretion and judgment, including correspondence with necessary accreditation agencies and national boards. Receives and answers correspondence on behalf of the OPC and, where appropriate, the President and Chief of Staff.

Assist with coordinating the scheduling of strategic events, meetings, and other requests to balance and address key institutional objectives. Assists with maintaining the President’s calendar and ensures appropriate preparation for daily activities through the review of appointments and proper referrals for the President’s participation.

Responds to routine inquiries for the Chief of Staff to ensure matters requiring the attention of executive leaders are thoroughly developed, researched, and evaluated.

Supports and sustains a culture of service, professionalism, and continuous improvement in the OPC by supporting daily operations, and developing administrative goals and priorities for long-range strategic planning.

Supports the budget management and expenditures for the Office of the President and CEO, including data collection for the OPC annual budget. May assist in cost analyses, projections, reporting, and fundraising efforts.

Manages high-priority projects designed to achieve the Institution’s mission and strategic vision; builds and maintains successful working relationships with a wide range of offices, staff, and stakeholders, internal and external to the Institution.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Stellar written and oral communication skills characterized by diplomacy and decorum.

Skilled in graphic design to support high-level institutional presentations.

A high-level of emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and the capacity to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.

Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and critical thinking skills; adaptability to meet changing demands.

Ability to identify, analyze and address a wide variety of issues and problems in a high-intensity environment.

Demonstrated proficiency with various word processing and social media applications and programs.

Knowledge of the goals, objectives, structure, and operations of an academic and/or health professions institution.

Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

Ability to perform complex tasks, prioritize multiple projects with adherence to strict deadlines.

Superior research, writing, and oral communication.

Ability to create, compose, and edit correspondence and other written materials.

Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.

Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and work effectively with administrators, academic leadership, faculty, students, community leadership, public officials, funding agencies, and members of the community at large.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university is required.

Minimum of six (6) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from a regionally accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred.
