PICKLE RESEARCH CAMPUSJob Details:General Notes:

This position is located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.Purpose:

Computational modeling of geophysical processes and analysis of Geophysical data to improve existing and develop new approaches for earthquake source characterization.Responsibilities:Conduct research to develop novel computational approaches on earthquake source characterization using full waveform inversion or combination of similar inversion methodologies. The goal is to minimize earthquake source location uncertainty using existing methods, estimate source intensity and directionality characteristics, and develop new methods that may require the joint estimation of additional subsurface geophysical parameters.Comparatively assess the effectiveness of different methods in earthquake source characterization under heterogeneous and isotropic/anisotropic conditions.Integrate results into TexNet's operational process for earthquake location and a regional time-dependent seismic hazard model for risk mitigation.Present in meetings and conferences.Publish in peer review journals.Required Qualifications:

PhD in computational engineering, seismology, or geophysics. Prior research experience with geophysical/geomechanical modeling, hypothesis testing, earthquake catalogs, and stress evolution processes is preferred. Excellent knowledge/experience in software development, including excellent skills in parallel programming. PhD must have been received within 3 years from date of hire.Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of subsurface modeling, earthquake nucleation processes, fault rupture propagation, and seismic hazard modeling.Salary Range:
