Job SummaryA Sr. Lead Scientist position is available within the Scent R&D division at one of the world's leading fragrance and flavor companies. This New Jersey based position is one that offers the ability to drive the future of the scent ingredient catalog through innovative ingredient discovery. This role connects basic R&D discovery with the critical needs of the Scent Business unit. Superior technical ability coupled with out of the box thinking, exceptional communication skills as well as a growth mindset are all required for success.Responsibilities:Lead new ingredient discovery projects that align with BU goals and aspirations.Drive discovery and utilization of new chemical technologies to enable the preparation of next-generation fragrance ingredients.Partner with Technology Scouts to identify key external partners to work with, including, but not limited to Consortia, CROs, startups, and suppliers.Be a technical expert mentoring junior employees in the art and science of fragrance ingredient discovery.Analyze complex and possibly incomplete data to make research decisions.Engage team, stakeholders, and leadership in planning and achieving strategic objectives. Monitor opportunities and threats and take action to adapt work to meet goals.Lead project collaborations with internal and external customers.Engage internal and external stakeholders to define needs, develop research strategy, and gain agreement for the ultimate plan.Mentor and act as a role model to all levels within the organization.Build effective teams via integrating diverse talents, as well as motivating and inspiring members to excel and achieve breakthrough results.Qualifications:Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with 12-15 years' experience in the research and development of fragrance ingredients or related. Demonstrated management experience required.Solid, broad-based knowledge of the fragrance industry including applications, manufacturing, and regulatory issues. Excellent communication and team building skills essential.Ability to manage multiple, unrelated projects at once.Experienced with IP/patent filing and/or review.Experience in landscaping technology areas and working with Legal to determine Freedom To Operate.Ability to review complex technical data to make research decisions.Ability to clearly communicate complex topics to non-technical audiences.Preferred Experience:Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with 15+ years' experience in the research and development of fragrance ingredients. Demonstrated management experience required.
