Job SummaryAs a Scientist at IFF, you will help fulfill the strategic mission of the Delivery and Material Science group, which is to drive consumer preference in our customer's products through the development of new environmentally friendly delivery technologies. You will be part of a close-knit team conducting cutting-edge research in the areas of fragrance encapsulation supporting continued business growth at IFF.

Primary activities include conducting independent research geared toward improving IFF's fragrance encapsulation technologies under the general supervision of senior technical staff. Key aspects of the position include the development of technical approaches, preparing samples or prototypes, conducting internal and external performance evaluations, and completing a variety of other analyses including analytical and stability testing. Additional activities include data interpretation as well as development of next steps and timely and accurate results reporting. May lead projects and may supervise others in the future.This position will require the development of an in-depth understanding of chemistry, material, and polymer science as they relate to encapsulation, microencapsulation, and other delivery systems. Emphasis will be placed on the interactions with and performance of the delivery systems in consumer products.Key Responsibilities:Conduct original research in developing novel and proprietary fragrance delivery systemsDevelop technical approaches and project plansConduct bench-level experiments, making prototypes and samplesAnalyze data, accurately document experiments, and propose next stepsDevelop an in-depth understanding of delivery systems, chemistry, formulations, processes, and methodologies to assess performanceIdentify new materials and ingredients that can provide technical or competitive advantageAct as a functional representative on project teams and manage assigned project areasCommunicate results and plans to cross-functional teamsDemonstrate a clear ability to act as a contributor in an interdisciplinary team environmentRequirements:The successful candidate will have:Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry/Chemistry, Chemical Engineering. Industrial experience is a plus.Demonstrated ability to conduct original and independent researchDemonstrated ability to solve complex technical problemsProblem-solving skillsDecision-making skillsProject managementCollaborationFunctional technical skills in related disciplinesExcellent written and oral communication skillsIFF will review and consider candidates who do not have a Ph.D. but do have 10 or more years of experience in Delivery Sciences.Preferred:Post-doc or industrial experience, especially if related to microencapsulation and fragrance delivery systemsExperience in material, interfacial, and colloidal sciencesResearch experience in physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, polymer chemistry, colloid chemistry, controlled release, and microencapsulation preferredWe are a global leader in taste, scent, and nutrition, offering our customers a broader range of natural solutions and accelerating our growth strategy.
