Our Department manages and maintains more than 225 parks, playgrounds, and open spaces in San Francisco, including Sharp Park in Pacifica and Camp Mather in the High Sierras. Our 4,100-acre system includes over 30 recreation centers, 9 swimming pools, 5 golf courses, and numerous athletic facilities. Included in the department’s responsibilities are Golden Gate Park, Coit Tower, the Marina Yacht Harbor, the Palace of Fine Arts, and TPC Harding Park golf course.More than 2,000 talented individuals are part of our team, from gardeners, foresters, and recreation leaders to park rangers, custodians, electricians, painters, and more. Our core mission is to provide opportunities for San Francisco residents and visitors to gather, play, learn, relax, and enjoy nature in the city.The Aquatics Division has nine (9) pools located throughout San Francisco's diverse neighborhoods. The Recreation and Park Department’s goal is to close the gaps and improve equity and access to quality parks and recreation activities for historically marginalized communities.Job DescriptionEssential Duties:Patrol and monitor pool activities, facility patrons, and swimmers to prevent accidents; identify people in distress or those in danger.Conduct rescue operations; perform lifesaving techniques; assist swimmers in distress; call for emergency assistance; perform first aid when necessary.Communicate with facility patrons; caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; enforce pool rules and regulations; maintain order in and around the pool.Maintain aquatic facility by inspecting and observing the pool area, lobby, change rooms, and deck for safety and cleanliness; perform general pool maintenance duties; prepare the facility for various aquatic events.Collect revenue and fees for facility use and participation in activities; greet and check in facility guests.Provide customer service; share general information regarding facility operations, programs, and schedules.Prepare incident and accident reports as necessary.Other related duties as assigned.QualificationsHourly pay $24.437 (as of July 1, 2023)1. Written verification of at least 200 hours of experience as a paid or volunteer lifeguard.2. Current Lifeguard License and Certification:Current possession and maintenance of the following certifications or equivalent:1. Lifeguarding issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent;2. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer;3. Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer;4. Title 22 - First Aid for Public Safety Personnel.*Those who qualify can obtain a valid work permit (anyone in high school) and are at least 16 years and older by the date of hire.Applicants must attach a current Lifeguard certificate and written verification of qualifying experience with their application.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:All employees must keep current valid Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications throughout their length of employment.New hires must possess the following certifications issued by the American Red Cross and maintain validity throughout employment: First Aid for Public Safety Personnel and Oxygen Administration.Desirable Qualifications:Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI)Current Waterfront CertificateContact:
