Part-time Adjunct for Tropical Ecology (Study Abroad program), Master of Environmental Studies 2024-25Job Summary:

Evergreen's Graduate Program on the Environment, which awards the Master of Environmental Studies (MES) degree, seeks a faculty colleague to help teach the study abroad elective "Tropical Ecology" in Winter 2025. This MES elective will be team-taught by a regular member of the MES faculty (responsible for 4 of the 6-credit program) and the adjunct faculty member (hired for 2 of the 6-credit program). The adjunct faculty will join the regular faculty member for a 2-week field trip in Costa Rica at the end of Winter quarter as their primary teaching responsibility.The adjunct teaching responsibilities (in coordination with the regular faculty member) in Costa Rica will include lectures, workshops, individual/group project supervision, management of field trip logistics, and evaluation of student work (up to one third of the total number of students in the program). The adjunct will help students understand the ecology and conservation of neotropical organisms and ecosystems.A successful candidate must be able to teach foundational material and advanced topics in the field of tropical ecology and conservation, which could include forest ecology, vertebrate biology, botany, natural resource management, or other aspects in this field. This is a one-quarter adjunct faculty position dedicated to graduate students, with primary teaching responsibilities on the 2-week field trip. The adjunct faculty will also need to be able to attend at least 2 class meetings with students and the regular faculty member before the field trip starts (in-person or remotely).Job Expectations:

This is an adjunct faculty position and is not eligible for continuing appointment. All requirements for these positions must be completed at the time of hire. Salary for all positions is based on experience and degrees (see

salary grid

for more information). We do not offer relocation expenses for our adjunct faculty positions.Evergreen uses narrative evaluations in lieu of grades, and full-time faculty are generally responsible for evaluating 15 students per quarter in an elective. Faculty are also responsible for advising students in their respective area(s) of expertise regarding skill development and career opportunities and possibilities.Our students, faculty and staff create learning communities to understand environmental problems and solutions.
