Respect, is one of the Core Values of the College and we strive to nurture mutual respect among faculty, staff and students.Job Description:Springfield Technical Community College seeks a dedicated and experienced Laser/Optics Technology (Photonics) full-time faculty member to join our School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in the discipline, as well as developing curricula in laser/optics and quantum adjacent technologies. This faculty member guides students through theoretical and practical/lab learning environments, preparing graduates from a Certificate or Degree program for careers in fields that continue to evolve and expand. The faculty member will also contribute to the college's mission of fostering student success through innovative teaching and community engagement.Key Responsibilities:Teach a range of courses in Laser Optics Technology (Photonics), including but not limited to Laser Fundamentals, Geometric & Wave Optics, Fiber Optics Technology, and Laser Safety.Develop and update curriculum materials to reflect the latest advancements in photonics and quantum adjacent technologies.Provide hands-on laboratory instruction, ensuring students gain practical experience with industry-standard equipment and techniques.Mentor and advise students on academic and career pathways in the field of laser optics technology.Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement effective teaching strategies that support diverse learning styles.Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry trends and educational practices.Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and assessment activities.Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student success and retention.Requirements:A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Laser Optics, Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field; Master's degree preferred.Proven experience in laser optics technology/photonics, with a strong understanding of both theoretical concepts and practical applications.Prior college teaching experience.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Preferred Qualifications:Doctorate degree in a related field.Professional experience in the laser optics industry.Experience with curriculum development and instructional design.Familiarity with online teaching platforms and tools.Active participation in professional organizations related to laser optics and photonics.Application Instructions:All candidates must apply online by submitting a cover letter, resume, and three (3) professional references.
